Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?

Who would you like to have over for dinner at your Airstream?

It might be our dear old Queen, Helen Mirren?

Or, it might be a specialist who can service your furnace?

Who and why?

Helen Mirren of course!! She's a marvelous actress, all her work is great. She was great in Prime Suspect too! The real question would then be, what to cook for dinner...

I didn't mean that you had to specifically invite Helen Mirren - feel free to invite who you like! Lol! However, feel free to suggest a menu!

An interesting thread you've started.

I would have liked to have had Wally and his wife (is it Stella - oh how bad the memory gets on Thursdays) over to visit. What an inspiring and interesting conversation that would have been. Not very many people have left such a visible and mobile impression on the world that has lasted over 75 years.

There are not that many people today who I would like to spend "Awning" time with whom I don't already do so other than all these folks on the Forum I've yet to meet.

I wouldn't mind a couple of hours of Bill and Melinda Gate's time talking to them about how they are investing their bazzillions for the poor. A worthy effort and I'm wondering how they are setting the criteria and then making sure that the money is truly being spent there. He is certainly someone who has impacted my life through his founding of Microsoft.

I would like to invite the Dalai Lama. He is such an interesting person with a wonderful perspective on the world and I there's so much to learn from someone who takes life head on the way he does. He does come to Vancouver from time to time and I need to get my butt in gear and send him an invitation to come out to the TCT meet in Deming this summer. Think he'll accept?

I would like to invite my Mom and Dad if they had not passed. There was so much I wanted to ask them but just never seemed to find the time until it there wasn't any time left. And they loved Airstreams but never owned one so they would have enjoyed us having one immensely. Often when I sitting out under the stars at night they come to mind as they enjoyed camping so much and made sure that it was a big part of our lives growing up.

the signers of the declaration of independance. i'd like to show them how so many of their rules and amendments have been so distorted. maybe we could change things for the better right at the beginning!

I think it would be great to have a potluck dinner with Julia Child and Jacques Pepin. James Taylor, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Dave Matthews and Patsy Cline would be a lot of fun around the campfire as would John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway, Jonathan Swift and John Adams.

Of course Wally and Stella would be the first to get the invite.

I would also be tempted to invite the IBT. Can't you just imagine the conversation Wally and Stella would have them today?

I'm not entirely sure my other guests would appreciate it very much though ...

I've hosted dinner parties in the past but the normal rules don't apply! I mean, I couldn't imagine putting Robin Williams AND Winston Churchill in the same room! I'll just make a list: William Shakespeare, Francis Ford Coppolla(who has an Airstream), Alan Rickman(Me Julie Lurvs him!), Jim Garrison, John Lennon, Sophia Loren(Dinner's under the awning), Judy Garland, Helen Mirren, Nelson Mandela, Gallileo, Alfred Steiglitz, Einstein. Larry Adler and Yitshak Perlman playing "Summertime" from Porgy and Bess and Greta Scacchi! 'nuff said!

I have to agree about an evening with Wally and Stella. Another would be Leonardo DaVinci. As an inventor and idea-guy, I think he would marvel at all the wonders of a vintage Airstream. I've also wanted to meet M.C. Escher. Now if I could have the two of them for dinner, that would be unforgettable.
