Dallas / Fort Worth Tornadoes

Two twisters touched down today South of Dallas, there was extensive damage. Let's hope that no one was seriously hurt.

There is some horrifying video here: U.S. News - 'Tremendous damage' as 2 twisters tear through areas south of Dallas

It was a pretty wild afternoon. We got lucky and the storms passed both east and west of us. It was pretty frightening to be watching the radar and wondering if we were going to have to duck and cover in a few minutes.

Wow - I've never seen semis flying like that. Hoping for the best.

I'm at NTAC in Hillsboro and we're in a Severe T-storm with hail. Didn't sound big enough to do any damage but won't know for sure until it ends.

So far it's looking pretty good. There were a few occupied buildings that got hit in Arlington and the reports at the time were that no one suffered serious injuries. Hopefully that'll hold! We slipped through a gap in the storms here at the house (west Fort Worth) and are hoping it's limited to property damage in the path of the storm.

I just got back to the house in San Antonio after all flights into and out of Dallas were cancelled due to the storms. Looks like I will be missing school tomorrow, but I would rather be safe than sorry. Hope all the Dallas streamers come out without injury and damage.

Disaster declared in Arlington. Baseball size hail in Euless. Schneider semi-trailers flying through the air.

Still Severe T-storm at NTAC in Hillsboro and the warning has been extended to 4:30. But from the map it looks like the worst is over and no more hail so far.

Lancaster got nailed a few years back. Par for the course. Same for some of the northern tier suburbs that are out west. The worst areas are (and will be until an F5 monster forms) on the outskirts, the "edges" of the metro area where the urban heat island effect has a border. From west to east the things tend to dissipate.

If there is plenty of "city" between you and the storm, I wouldn't worry overmuch.

Tornado producing cell passed over the house but all funnels had withdrawn by the time it got to Rowlett. Haven't touched base with our covered storage area yet but its NE of the house so hopefully AS escaped unscathed.

Shane, how are things in your part of Arlington?

Hope all of our ranger friends at Cooper Lake SP to our east as well as the park escape unscathed this afternoon.

Just saw the video on our local news here in Denver. So scary. I think Mother Nature isn't very happy with us these days. I hope everyone is safe.

We are heading to Austin/Fredericksburg, TX this weekend.

In the words of the immortal Shirley Temple "Oh my gooness!"

That was some video - elevated my heart rate from 10 states away. Keep reporting in. Glad to know everyone's OK so far, and hope the news continues positive. Really it's just a miracle that one of those trailers didn't land on a school.

Please repurpose your 50's vintage bomb shelters for tornado shelters.

Unhappy Update, As Darkness Falls

Spooky colored skies around these parts today!! The tornado siren's started barking in my area at around 1:20 PM central time. It sounded like everyone in the State was testing their siren's all to once until I turned on the tv news. WOW! I never saw Doppler Radar screen shots look so mean!

Before the storm font left the Dallas/Fort Worth area late this afternoon, off to the east, 5 Counties were hit by up 12 tornado's! They say that they won't know the final number until they can get out there a survey over the next day or so.

Thank God, so far there has been no serious injuries or death reported!

Was indeed a spookie day in the big D today. Entire office crammed into a small room with pillows and couch cushions. Hail was baseball sized and made minced meat of our Audi and the truck!!! BUT we are all safe and sound. Both Airstreams were under cover. Now THAT would have made us cry! Stay safe all. Lots of good thoughts for all you folks in Lancaster and Arlington.

Hail and lots of thunder/lightning right now in South Mississippi at 0100 - same front passing through. Hail looks to be smaller than a dime but will have to wait for daylight to assess damage if any. Winds are real bad. Trees are really twisted with gusts over 60 mph easy. It's going to be a long night.

I'm with ya Clancy! We were very fortunate here in the Dallas / Fort Worth area today in that there was no reports of serious injury or death from the otherwise devastation that was on top of us. Lots of damage to homes, although so far Mother Nature is trying to send us a very conservative message...

Let us hope that she will be more tolerant of us humans again in the future! And yes, we have much work to do!
