Neat project Rob. The lower centre of gravity will be a benefit for handling compared to the burb.

When I got back into RVing a few years ago I was going to redo an older Burb. Lower the whole vehicle, build up a big V8, etc and buy an Airstream. Changed my mind because of the fuel consumption issue but would have been a good project.

Neat conversion Rob. My buddies had a '59 Buick Convert until five years ago. It was getting to the point where the body was in need of extensive repair, but it was still looking decent, so they sold it. Since it's been completely restored.

Yours will look stunning with an Airstream in tow.

Man, we've got Caddies, Chargers, Buicks, Fords and Pontiacs - too bad we couldn't get them with their Airstreams all in one place some time. That would be a real hoot.

The sixties Suburbans are really good looking TV's when freshened. I've seen some outstanding jobs done on them and they too are often popped onto later frames. S10 is the usual frame with a V8 upgrade to that chassis.

This is a great thread.

Neat car Mike.

You are one of the few who had the foresight to hang on to their cars for so long. It's fun to know the history of your car and relevant to this crowd, that it came from a fellow Airstream lover.

Bought in 1980 in Wyoming for $400.00 and used as my daily driver for over 24 years. First 14 years of ownership concentrated on mechanical while using it. Then came the cosmetics. 1955 First series Chevy pickup. Sold it and it now lives in Chicago area.

I love the look of the first series '55 Royce. Yours looks like it was in pretty decent shape. I'd of had a tough time selling it. Did you keep it stock or do any mods to it?

I had a '56 GMC but was talked out of it by someone with a much thicker wallet than I.

I do plan on getting another at some time in the future although I'm still thinking an early to mid sixties 'burb would be the more practical for us. Mind you, it will depend on what Donna is willing to drive since it looks like she's going to be the family driver for some time to come.

I do have a trailer hitch which will fit on the MG but I don't think this engine is up to the task.

Barry,

The '55' was all stock, including orginal 6 volt, interior and exterior paint. The only non stock were the truck radials, seat fabric, and the grill color. On '55' first the grill should have been white. I did hate to part with her but the time had come to move on. The new owner has sent 8 emails telling me what he has done and how happy he is with the truck. She went to a good home. None of my children had expressed an interest and I wanted to make sure the grand old lady went to a good home.

Our new baby!

As of Tuesday night, we became the proud owners of one of my dream cars:

Can anyone guess what it is???

Wrong!

It's a 1949 Triumph 2000 Roadster. It was the last production car with a dickey (rumble) seat. We have an 1800 Roadster that is a year older:

but it needs much more done to it that will cost more than the purchase price of this one, so we got this one and put the other one up for sale.

This one runs and drives, and can be worked on as a rolling restoration. Yay!!!!

What's funny is we have friends who have these cars, and they say that they always get sent to the Rolls Royce section of the car show when they show up. It takes some hard convincing (usually a look at the badging) to make people understand it's not a Rolls.

Neat car Susan.

Living on the west coast where a number of British/European folks emigrated to after the second world war, we happen to see some pretty neat cars from time to time. It is always fun to have one that is functional to play on rather than socked away and needing months/years of collecting parts and refurbishing before it can be properly enjoyed.

Good find. It now has a great new home.
