Bear vs. Sheep

I had a black bear kill two of my sheep last weekend. He got them in two separate instances. DEC set a trap for him, but we've had no luck. I've moved the sheep (I only have five left) and will bring them back to that pasture and barn after I've set up electric fence there. DEC says that is very effective against bears.

While I'm not trying to make light of the situation, it did offer the opportunity for the following:

The economy is so bad, even my livestock is down 30%.

Well, what can I expect in a bear market?

If you get a bull and it chases away the bear, would that bring back a bull market?

I gotta admit... I wasn't expecting this when I opened the message. Thanks for the smile.

The story is true- not just a set up for the joke. I just couldn't resist.
I got most of the electric fence done today.

Last year I met a bear along Skyline Drive. He/she got between me and the parking lot, in dense undergrowth, while I was on a short hike out to a view point. Gotta tell ya, there were a few tense moments there. I ended up driving it off by singing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" slightly off key. I figured it was a Confederate bear and would be annoyed by both the selection and the performance.

Nice to know that electric fences work as bear repellant. I'm hoping to get some sheep in a couple years.
