Anyone else up late last night?

Or was I the only one with insomnia? At 12:00 AM AMC showed "The Long, Long, Trailer" with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. I had seen this movie a couple of times before and just happened on it by accident last night when I couldn't get to sleep. I missed the parts where "Stacy" was dreaming about living in the trailer, but came in where she talked "Nicky" into buying it for their honeymoon/wedding home.

Boy, I couldn't get over some of the dinners she fixed in that tiny kitchen. Like when they got stuck on the timber road at that ridiculous angle and had to drink their Chianti from their crystal wine glasses taped to the table and used straws! Dinning on their china and silver by candle light provided by the silver candelabra (in the trailer park no less). Beef Ragu cooked in a copper chaffing dish with Cesar Salad to be prepared while traveling down the road! Wonder how they managed to keep all the food in the pantry going down the road when she wasn't in there cooking? Oh, and let's not forget Stacy snapping at Nicky that only a bore would prepare Cesar Salad with Roquefort cheese, noooo, she would use Parmesan cheese from a can! How times have changed. Not to mention the dresses she wore for "camping" and the suite and ties he wore. Like I said, how times have changed.

One day I'll get a copy of that movie on DVD so my wife can see it.

I noticed that it was going to air last week on AMC. Than promptly forgot about it. I watched it about 6 months ago on late nite TV. I had seen it only once before when I was a kid. But it is required viewing if you own an AS isn't it? I think this is how Hollywood portrayed the "American Couple". I have never known anyone that would wear a suit and tie 24/7 and even on vacation. They also slept in twin beds too. So where did "Little RicKy" come from?

Almost always sunny here unless there is a hurricane bearing down on you. And then it's time to hook up the burb and roll. So far I've been very lucky.

Did they have the trailers on your broadcast? I saw LLT a couple months back and my DVR booted it off after a while. Makes me wish Betamax had beaten out VCR. Digital isn't always a winner...

I loved the extras shown along with the movie. Like Rickie's band doing 'Babalu' and a couple other cool old hits.

Thanks for that link, the trailer made me go searching for a copy of that DVD.

Here's some info and photos of the author, Clinton Twiss.

At the end of the movie, they said that in 1954 movies and TV were totally separate and the producers weren't sure that the movie going public would pay to see Lucy and Desi in a movie when they could see them for free every week. They gambled and won. That was the first time that there was a cross over between TV and movies and The Long, Long Trailer made millions for the studio.
