We just bought an '83 that has a motorized TV antenna that won't raise. It seems to have power through the switch and we can hear a low hum at the motor site when the switch is activated. Also, when the switch is first turned on, the light is bright but then goes dim almost immediately, then goes completely out. The antenna doesn't even budge. We have checked the antenna to make sure it isn't stuck from lack of use or whatever. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I would first verify that you are getting 12 volts from the 12v distribution panel even when the light goes out. Things tend to go on the 'blink' when the fuses go bad. Peter can show you how to use your volt meter to test it. Just come to the next motorhome rally! If the fuse is going bad (like mine), you'll start to lose voltage after a short while (like your light going out).
Just a thought to share with you- my 82 had the antenna itself replaced with a manual crank Winegard...but the older motorized switch set up left in place in the wall...non functional. Just wondered if yours might have been disconnected at some point also...checking the voltage will help, also checking the wiring at the crank motor itself.
I have been trying to come up with a replacement for the switch panel to make it into something functional. Cable tv outlet was one thought...
Crystaljean22,
Have you tried raising the antenna in the very moment someone turns the switch on. The way it sounds is that you have power to switch and to the motor, but the voltage drops due to overload. The motor could be stuck or the gear jammed. Next step would be to remove the motor and connect it to 12 V without a load.
Our 1983 310 has the problem that the antenna does not raise and lower, and it is because a plastic drive gear is broken. Not the same gear kit as the manual antenna lifts. Anyone know the manufacturer or a source for this?

If I'm not mistaken we have all the manuals for the antenna on our 84 310 limited. I'll dig them out of the shop tomorrow and see if that is covered. Ours doesn't move up and down either and I haven't had time to look into it
