Heater/Defrost fan motor

My heater/defrost fan motor is bad. It's the one mounted on the outside of the firewall not the a/c motor. Has anyone found a source for them?

OK, explain three or four speeds.

Actually it is done by sending different voltages from the control switch.

Compare to a variable speed drill that still only has two wires from the motor.

That's what I was figuring, but it thought I tested voltage at both settings of the switch and got 12 volts on both...will do it again!

Called Inland and they want $166.48. I'll just say that is very steep and I'll have to look around.

Hopefully drive to Yosemite in two weeks isn't too cold!

Andy, incase I do need to get the fan from you, can you give me a bit more info?

Is your part the motor, mount and fan cage?

I previously posted a photo of mine. Dimentions are...

Motor 3.1 x 3.7 inches.
Mount is about 6.5 inches in diameter
Cage is about 5.5 inches in diameter and about 2 3/4 inches wide

Fan motor fixed!

I love it when I run across "real" experts! An old guy here at the ranch is a retired mechanic...he knows everything there is to know and he has proved it once again.

Asked him his thoughts on finding a new fan motor. He took a look at mine, smelled it and said the motor is not burned up and it is just the bearing on the shaft is froze up...rust and non-use.

He said drill a little hole in the capon the rear bearing and spray the front bearing on the shaft and the rear bearing with WD40. Work the shaft back and forth. Then tap the top of the shaft with a hammer to loosen it up. Hook it up to power and spray more WD40. Then spray se gun oil on the shaft and bearings. Gun oil? Of course I have gun oil!

Motor runs as good as new!

Cleaning and painting it up now!

The speeds are controlled by a resister mounted next to the heating/cooling box. The wiring from the controller (2 for 2 speeds, 3 for 3 etc.) end at the resister and just two wires go to the motor. I have one if you need it.

Hi All. Motor and fan are back in and all is working well. Even got two speeds! Saw resister under heater box.

I need some new defroster ducts...someone just posted about that as well.

The ducts at the dash, or the ductwork tubes going to the base of windshield?

Hi Derek. Little short ones going from defrost ducts that are on top and close to the dash. They are about 3 inches long I would say.

Think I need to replace the a/c ducting as well. Looks like it is the same stuff.

The resister looks like a couple of springs monted on a metal frame I think...
I remember learning this the hard way...
"Oh, what do those springs do?"...
Then you have a finger that looks like a piece of BBQ'd Salmon...
And would you believe I did the same on my Old Mercedes.. the low speed radiator fan has a cream colored ceramic resister...
Mmm, I wonder if it get hot... Sssssssh.... Arghh!
