I am picking up the 1” square steel tube tomorrow the modify the spare tire holder so that it will hold a flat tire and rim without it falling out. I’ll be posting a write up on my process and design implementation.

Hey Ronnie, was supposed to go out last weekend, life got in the way. Looking to get out towards end of August, some other fun trips planned. How was your last trip?

Once its actually in my driveway, i will have all kinds of questions I'm sure, but for now, just wondering if people have advice on the process of actually taking possession of it and if there are things I absolutely must buy before towing off of the lot?

I can't wait to start this next phase of my life :-)

Hi we bought our 23 CB International about a month ago. We have put about 800 miles on it and have a Blue Ox. With our 20 Flying Cloud we had a Equalizer and while the BlueOx is a little tricky to remove than the Equalizer, the BlueOx tows so much smoother and without the noise. Performance is similar to both so in the end we are happy with the BlueOx

Not yet... we pull out of here right after church on the 12th 😀. Rich should drive down to the Durango area for a couple of days since he is already in Colorado.

How about you? What's your next adventure?

We just finished a short trip to Mobile, AL, toured USS Alabama. Then over to Hammond, LA to a place called Reunion Lake. It was an RV/ waterpark. Lazy river, pools that sort of thing. Not really my cup of tea but the kids enjoyed it.
The wife and I are headed to Key West on the 10th for our anniversary (17 Years ).
All been good here. Pulled wheels and hubs this past weekend to check breaks and all looked great.
Spare tire rack mod on the short list, but other than that I’m running out of stuff to do
I talked to Justin Humphreys, Airstream COO and volunteered for this Consumer Quality Council they are trying to put together, so if that ever pans out that might be fun.
Other than that same old same old around here.
Rob, I’m glad to know that your trip to CO is still a go, and that all participants will attend.
Rich, You gotta just tell “LIFE” to get out of the way am coming through
Safe journeys

After reading this, I added a switch for both fans, on until I flip it off.... repurposed one of the on/off switches from the fantastic fan mod... it even has a fan icon on it! I also peered behind the microwave... would have lifted it completely out, but I need a long third arm . So, here's a microwave with louvers / vents over the top and under it; with nothing between there and right out over the top of fridge and into the cosmos. If there were propane fumes, its like I-75 through Atlanta... nothing to stop them or the heat. Has anyone closed this space off... insulated it? This is almost as surprising as a door that lets you lock yourself out... LOL. Or a subwoofer that isn't switched off when in store mode. I am so damn happy it has a subwoofer, that I really don't care. I know one thing, its going to be freaky to see all that blue light pouring out of the upper fridge vent cover at night.

More remodeling. Hopefully this helps somebody thinking about the same thing. There aren't many videos out there of people taking apart their airstreams.

Hey guys, I have a 23D and I have two dogs (both labs) that need to be crated while i'm away from my airstream. I need to build a permanent kennel for them but i'm having a hard time finding a place. I really do not want to give up my dinette or my bed but if I had to give up one I would remove the mattress and sleep on the dinette/bed. I really would like to put them where the extended sofa seating is but from what I can tell they're thing underneath that can't be moved?

Trying to brainstorm here. Does anyone have any helpful Ideas that maybe I haven't thought about.

Thanks!

mk2883,
Welcome!
We crate our two dogs most of the time when we are gone out exploring. Both are full size dogs and we just put there crates in the floor in front of the refrigerator and remove them when we are in the trailer. This allows us to maintain the “original” layout of the trailer and also crate them in the TV while traveling. This is how we do it, but to each their own.

Thanks for the response. What type of outdoor setup do you guys have? For instance do you guys put a fence around the airstream like some people do when you're in a campground or do you guys put a stake in the ground with a line? We used to have a large fifth wheel but downsized so the smaller space is a bit overwhelming, just trying to get great ideas.

Thanks!

As with all my stupid projects, it is primarily 1/4" (nominal) Baltic birch, laminated with Wilsonart "Asian Sand" pattern (same as the Airstream's other cabinetry). The shelf folds up for bed-making and whatever, and locks into the down position by using one of those little brass double-ball catches.

All in all, I'm pleased with the project, and Linda is thrilled... and that's what counts!

My shelf solution based on my under whelming carpentry skills.

Purchased from Ikea, cut in half to make two, and bolted to the wall.

Works just fine.

Same as Rich here. Our only concern is leaving them in the trailer on a sunny warm/hot day. I figured since we would be plugged into shore power at a relavitely new campsite, no problem with AC. But my buddy said he wouldnt chance it since the power could go out. I kind of chuckled about that to my self, thinking whats the chance. Well we ended up leaving the dogs home with my daughter, but second day of the trip, we came back from fishing to find.... no power. Brand new campsite. Called the desk and a great guy came right out and tapped us into another post on the adjacent site. Said when they had it wired 2 years before, the cable was sheathed in a soy based material... which the mice just love.)

Anyway, found a sensor that connects through a wireless gateway tender that connects to a hot spot (we can leave one of our phones on and plugged into 12v power) that will alert you on another cell phone if the temp were to reach above any level you pre set on your phone as an alarm. Also doubles to monitordetect any leaks you may have.

That will give us peace of mind to venture up to an hour from the trailer.
