404 Error

Anybody getting 404 errors - when I first go in something flashes about a profile and hen I get a 404 error. The only way I could get in here was to click back and then stop.

On Mac with FIrefox if that makes a difference (It never did before).

That only happens when looking at banned porno sites... I too have had that with my Mac, but not on this forum... I seem to have troubles with the computer not being able to find the server. Have you tried contacting Apple Care and asking what it means? I am always needing to ask them something.

404 Error Continues

I get it every time I try and access the site (multiple times a day!) I receive the 404 message, then I click on the link www.airforums.com and am able to connect to the site.

This is using two different PCs!

I am getting it all the time as well. Both at work and at home. This has been a common problem for the last week or so. Most people are posting their issue on the "Problems Today" thread: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...y-30844-8.html

I was getting this message every day, also using firefox.

I used the "portal" tab at the top of the page and resaved that as my bookmark last weekend. No problems since.

Hope I didnt just jinx myself

Y'all have cleared your cookies, right? These reports have been coming in over the past several days and I usually get the same problems as everybody else. Not this time. I have a suspicion that there was some abnormality a few days ago and those folks that were logged on at that time are the ones having problems. Trying clearing your cookies and reboot your computer.

O'course, I could be completely wrong. But it's worth a try.

It has nothing to do with PC vs Mac. My PC was doing it the other morning. Came back a couple hours later, and it stopped. It would go to www.airforums.com, screen would flash a couple times, then I ended at www.airforums.com/profile.html or something like that (404 error). Didn't need to click anything for it to happen.

I'm also getting the 404 ERROR on a regular basis for the past several days. If I keep at it, I am usually able to get back on. I'm using a PC.

I'd toss my cookies if I thought it would help! Someone has obviously improved something beyond all utility. G--, how I love progress!

I'm getting the interrupt on my computer (PC) at home. If I go into FORUMS and read those for awhile, then switch back to reading the threads, it'll let me in without the interrupt. I've never had it if I check in at work - also a PC. It gets very frustrating when it happens. Since I've figured out how to work around it, I've not checked to see if it's still doing it - it may have quit and I don't know it. I'll check it tonight at home.

Uhmm...just for the record I do not use my Mac (or any computer for porn).

Not sure whare you developed this theory but as an internet professional (I run a web development company) I do not see how it should effect this site even if I did. I also tried it on my work computer and it has the issue as well..

I use both Firefox & IE interchangeably. The site administrator restarted the servers ... Sunday evening? Monday morning? I cleared my temporary internet files/cache in both browsers and haven't seen this problem since. How about if everybody tries that and report back if they cleared the cache and still see the 404 message.

Thanks!

I was getting that error message too. I had just upgraded the microsoft internet explorer. When I clicked my saved link to the forums, I got a quick flash showing the top of the portal page, then the 404 error message. All of my other saved internet sites were fine.

I could find the forums with a google search and had to save the link a few times before it worked again. I use a PC, not MAC.

What is a 404 error?

A 404 error doesn't have anything to do with your operating system or the type of computer you are using or the browser you are using. The problem originates on the website you are trying to access.

When you browse the web and a particular page can not be found by your browser, you are served an error page by the server of the web site you are visiting, called 404 (which means that the page does not exist).

Since the page might only be inaccessible temporarily it is suggested to hit the Refresh button on your browser toolbar, or try to visit that page again later. This is similar to clearing your cache because it sends a message that you want to not use your cache but want a refresh of the page directly from the web site.

Sometimes though you are dealing with a page that really does not exist anymore physically. In this case you would always be served the same error message no matter how often you hit that Refresh button.

Some web site owners do not care or know how to deal with expired, deleted or otherwise disappeared web pages, so a message similar to the format used for this dedicated 404 error pages web site is shown instead. Sometimes the web site owner doesn't have control of the software package which could be the case on airforums as this site probably uses pre-built/configured bulletin board software.

Other web developers, who have control of their code, create their own "oooops" pages that are served instead of the generic server generated 404 error pages. These customized 404 error pages serve the purpose of offering the web site user an apology or alternative way of finding their way back into the content the web site deals with.

Thumbs up Delete Cookies

I fixed mine (which suddenly began ocurring over the weekend) by searching for and deleting all cookies with "airforums.com" in the filename, and then logging into the site again and saving the new cookie.

So, I guess tossing your cookies does solve the problem?

Cookies, Confusion and URLs

I'm sort of rusty in using the Internetss, so bear with me. When I decide to surf the airforum site, I use "my Favorites" list on the Internet Explorer toolbar. This has a plain language name that is translated by IE (and other procedures) into the Internet Protocol address of the site. As explained in an above post, if the dialog list I used asks for an "old" page at the Airforum site, the site will send back to me a "404" error message. This should be a wakeup call for me to check how I tried to contact the site.
As far as I know, no cookies are involved in this, cookies are used by bean-counter programs. I usually delete temporary Internet files and cookies before shutting down the computer.
regards
