Zip Dee on a Caravel

Boy I am Mad!

Bought Zip Dees for the Caravel and got a call from the Shop. Seems like the Zip Dee won't fit the 66 Caravel because of the conflict with the entrance handle. But....they tell me after they mount the awning hardware. So it looks like I have a nice Zip Dee but need to mount the support arm with a secondary bolt installation(picture #1)...luckily I had a bunch of old airplane quick release pins that fit perfectly(picture #2)....I needed something to work right.... #2 is on the left.

I love those Caravels!! Edit # 2...never thought I would have to appologize for too much reflection from the polish job

It looks like it's installed correctly, but the first row of rivets are so close to the door it leaves you no options. Having a removable pin is a great solution to the problem. Finding a place to keep the arm when the awning is stowed will be another issue.

My guess is, it wouldn't be too different than stowing the poles for a vintage style awning...

I have a new Zip Dee awning in a box waiting to be installed on my 65 Caravel. I've been debating whether to go Zip Dee or Vintage pole awning. The Zip Dee came with the trailer and I have yet to put it on thinking that I might want to preserve the "clean" lines of the old trailer and just throw up a pole awning when I needed it. I really like the color pattern of your awning, was it the same material from your pole awning and why did you switch?
