"Land Yacht" Emblem

Hello everyone,

Our 1971 Tradewind is missing the passenger side "Land Yacht" emblem. We lost it on our first trip out. Just about killed me. Nearly bought a whole trailer last week just to get that part. If anyone has any ideas where to find one, I really would appreciate the help! Also trying to find a rack for the Magic Chef oven!

Thanks! John

Hello John -- It won't be easy. I've heard Tim, Colin & Rob discuss this on theVAP.com. Short of buying a parts trailer they cruise eBay for Airstream parts regularly. This is easier for them because they have multiple trailers (dozens in Colin's case).

Have to ask - Was it stolen? How do you lose one that has 4 rivets holding it on? Wow, a market for old emblems...........

If his '71 is like my '73, those are not riveted. The backside of the emblem has several "pegs" on there and they go thru the outer skin and are held on with a simple push-nut (I think that's what you call 'em). The metal pegs become worn over time and will break. I'll bet that's what happened to his.

The Airstream letters on the front and back of mine are attached in the same manner. I've had to rework some of them and reattach them as the pegs broke off as I was attempting clean and reseal them.

Jim

On edit: try Colaws RV salvage, the usually have a parts trailer or two laying around.

When you start looking for a replacement don't forget that the left emblem is different than the right

The piece had the two front rivets ( or push pins) loose and apparently the wind did the rest. Vernon I can't for the life of mny figure out how the two sides differ as you mention. i was going to have a left cast (reproduced) from the right. Help? Thanks John

Easy, take a small American flag and place it over the existing emblem with the star field oriented to the front of the Airstream. Look at which side of the flag is lying against the Airtream aluminum. Now, walk around to the other side of the Airstream and place the same side of the flag against the aluminum. The flag will now be "flying backwards". Get it?

Hi John, I am missing the emblem on one of my '71 trailers as well. Mine is from the driver's side area. A pair of emblems came up on eBay a few months back and went for over $300 dollars. I'll do without for now.

Airstream was not "THAT" unique

The "Land Yacht" emblem has a slight slope to the right in it's configuration. It is the same on both the left and right sides of the trailer. At least that's the case with my emblem.

However, the flag emblem does have the blue field forward and the red and white stripes to the rear. These are not interchangeable to the left and right.

I was out playing all weekend so I missed your reply. The logos on my '77 unit have the top edge sloped to the front of the camper. On the curb side the logo therefore leans to the right, the street side has the logo leaning to the left. Yours could be different but I wanted to toss it out so you wouldn't make a bad assumption.

Airstream must have used 2 right side emblems on my coach the day it was built. I'm not surprised.

Emblem Placement

Out in my yard, I have 2, 1967 International Overlanders, 1, 1968 Sovereign, 1 1971 Caravel Land Yacht, and 1 1972 Ambassador to look at. The emblems on the International models, the red, white, and blue ones, do have a left or right orientation.
Now, have I totally confused everyone?

After looking for one for a long time, I decided to make my own. If you need one let me know I am getting a batch made in the next couple of weeks.

They are milled out of aluminum. I made them based on photos and the measurements of the ghost imprint left on my trailer.

Hi George! I just sold the last two I had. However I recently ordered a cnc that should allow me to make them myself (along with other things). My guess is it will be a couple of months for the machine to arrive, me get it set up, and dialed in to cut these. They should then be available again.
