Tradewind owners manual

I'm a novice owner of a 59 tradewinds. I have scoured the web for a manual
to figure out the basic functionality, How the electrics, plumbing and gas work to get this thing in working shape before the cosmetics begin.
Does any such information exist?

There is no such animal as a service manual for that year. There may be an operator/ owner manual. You may be able to get a photocopy from Secretarial Services in Jackson Center Ohio.

Airstream didn't begin publishing owner's manuals until 1964, and the '64 edition was very rudimentary. Service manuals weren't published until the early 1970s.

The original owner of your rig would have been provided with a manilla envelope filled with the individual manuals and literature for each of the installed accessories and appliances. You can find pdf files of some of these manuals on the Vintage Airstream Club website (look for the online library tab). Something else that you might try is going to your public library and look for books about RVing/trailering from the period of your trailer -- they can give you insight into how many systems operate.

Good luck with your coach!

Whoo hoo, another '59 TradeWind surfaces!! As mentioned in an earlier post, the factory didn't supply manuals until 1964. What is it you're looking to do as there are a bunch of us '59 and '60 TradeWind owners here on the forums who can offer all kinds of info?

I would also like to learn more about your TradeWind for the Registry I'm maintaining. I'll send you a PM (private message) to learn more.

Welcome aboard.

63 Tradewind noob here

Hi all, Just purchased a 63 Tradewind....my first Airstream!
(Also own a 64 Shasta 16SC) Haven't camped in the AS yet, but heading out today. I have a dumb question: can I use the stabilizers that look like square cones with the screw brace that goes up and down? Where on the trailer should they be placed? Is four enough?

Thanks! Looking forward to learning a LOT more from you good folks and sharing anything I might learn by accident!

Hi Debra ~

Congratulations!! Welcome to vintage Airstream ownership and to the forums. Yes, you can use these stabilizers. Put them under each side of the bumper supports and in the front under the 'A' frame just under the body of the trailer. Make them so they're just tight and do not attempt to 'lift' the tires from the ground. They'll work just perfectly for you. You may need to bring along some cut up 2 x 6's for support under the bases. The longer out the screw is, the less stable they become so its better to have a short stem and a few blocks of wood than a longer stem and be wobbly.

Post some pictures when you can. We all love pictures.

The generic mid '60s manual that I downloade 3 years ago has outdated itself with the renovations and updating of the coach that I have done since. The renovations and updating were done not for their sake but because many parts are no longer available.

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks, Brad. I took her out today and the stabilizers worked great! Next, gotta figure out how to close the toilet valve, but first gotta get rid of a big wasp nest next to the valve handle! yikes! I'll post some pix too!

thanks again!
