Okay, so I've been thinking about trying to set up my camper with internet access on the go, but I have no clue what route to take. I've seen those little USB cards you can get from cell phone companies to plug into your laptop, but I've also seen satellite dishes you can set up for internet. I want very fast internet, and have no clue what to do in order to set it up, and not get overcharged. If any of you have advice, I'll love some input. Thanks!

Little Buddy...we use a wireless adapter from Verizon. It runs us about 60.00 per month...plugs right into USB port on our laptop. I travel all over the US and have never been without access to the internet. But I'm sure there may be less expensive ways to connect (wifi hotspots, connection to cell phones, ect).

I too use Verizon (I use the MiFi) and find it to be a reliable source of Internet near everywhere I go. I couldn't say the same for my AT&T Aircard--especially if you head out of a major town.
Speed was good on both. You can play a YouTube video fairly quickly. I'd say it's about 3/4 of the speed I might expect at my home Internet by cable, though I'm sure the speeds are a lot different technically.
All that said, Verizon does impose some pretty significant usage throttles. 5GB/mo for $60. You wouldn't want to spend too much time on Youtube if you can avoid it. I tend to use my wireless provider's Internet connection as a patch between free WiFi access (Starbucks, RV camps, etc).Posted 01-07-2010 at 01:56 PM by bdegroodt -
