Don, here's a belated report on Comprehensive. In short, what they do is fine with some important caveats. You had better learn your coach's systems thoroughly -- this is a painful way to do it, but I don't know of an alternative. It is probably no different from working with any other shop -- at least in this case the rates aren't exorbitant and the workers' attitude is decent. You will also need to get used to this way of solving problems, because it's going to be the same whenever you have work done on your coach unless you happen to luck into someone who knows it well (and depending on what has been done to yours, this may be nearly impossible.)
The system here won't allow me to post my whole detailed reply (1000 characters max?!) but I have saved it -- send your email address to david at josephson dot com and I'll send it.

How did the repairs go and are Comprehensive Mechanics good or not?

Keep me apprised. I wait with bated breath to see if they're good and cost effective. It just seems like everything here in Monterey is so expensive. I'm having the brakes done so I can at least drive it to Santa Cruz without causing an accident. Do they have a telephone number?

Hello Don,
The garage I am working with here is Comprehensive Mechanics, which is on the west side between Bonny Doon winery and the old New Leaf. Further up on Mission is Santa Cruz RV Service, but the guys there, while knowledgeable, have a bad attitude about Airstreams.
The beast is up on jacks in Comprehensive's yard tonight so we should have a good idea tomorrow how they are handling it.
