I hope you get this response. Am just a "little low tech" and just saw your message. The screw eyes go in the ends of the dowel. The 1/8" material reference is stainless rod that came from Home Depot. Put a small hook on each end of about an 8-10" piece of the rod. Close one end of the hook on the screw eye and leave the other end open. Hang the open end on the rod that the rear awning rolls on. Using a clothes pole size dowel seems to help hold the towels on without using clips. Sorry I don't have a picture-hope this helps.

My husband says to tell you we're old and senile and can't picture your drying rod. Did you put the ss eyes on the end of the dowel i.e. parallel to the dowel, or through the ends perpendicular to the dowel? The piece of 1/8" material, bent--did you make an "s" hook? We can't picture it. The "axle" are you referring to the rod that the awning rolls on? We had a W/D in our big fifth wheel and that is the only thing I miss! We spent about four months in the Airstream last winter and I do need a drying solution when there isn't at least one thing to tie a line to. Would appreciate if you would help us out--did you take a photo?
