Again

Check out our 2017 listed early January in the Airstreams for sale section. Also a previous reply here. Bugs Are gone, many upgrades including second gen Alde w control on wall, new converter and batteries, etc If I were buying a trailer, I’d hate to have to debug again! We’ve done it for you!

I saw your trailer and passed it up because of the recliner conversion. I need to sofa for sleeping space. It’s a nice looking trailer.

There’s a 2017 in Memphis and a 2015 in Wisconsin that I’m interested in, but neither seller replied to my inquiries. It amazes me that folks trying to sell a luxury (i.e. limited buyers) trailer don’t even respond to interested buyers.

Hi

I'm not sure that the sofa makes a very good sleeping space. The way the recliner mechanisms "fit" is not ideal in terms of it being a bed. Yes, it depends a lot on just how big the sleeper is ....

I'll try again. When a buyer replies to a Classified listing it comes through as an e-mail, so maybe it's ending up in junk mail.

Based on the Airstream literature, the 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 Classic 30s all have the exact dry weight and tongue weight and we all know there were significant changes between those years.

I'm trying to find the accurate weight of a 2015-2016 Classic 30 with furnace and a 2017 with Alde.

When you have a chance, could you take a look at the tire loading sticker on the side of your trailer and let me know what you find? Jackson Center said that's the only way to get the true number.

I don't have a photo and the trailer is not stored at home, but I am pretty sure that the sticker on our 2016 Classic 30, with factory solar, but without the power awning is the exact 7365 lb. unit base weight that was shown on the website. We've never had it on a scale to verify.

We have a friend with a 2018 Classic 30, with Alde, Firefly, factory solar, and power awning and was surprised to see his unit base weight on the sticker at about 8800 lbs, but I forget the exact value. Again I have no photos, but it is a fact that the weight increased significantly by 2018. I would assume the increase really occurred for 2017 with Alde, Firefly, and also the power awning and maybe solar becoming standard.

It is also possible that when they changed the cabinets from Cherry (2015-16) to a European Beech or Ash??? (2017+) that the weight of the cabinets may have increased. The wood is stained the same color, but the trained eye can see differences in the grain of the wood.

Thanks for the info on the 2018. That's pretty close to Airstream's advertised weight of 7,788. Hopefully someone out there can confirm the lower 2015-2016 weight on a tire load sticker syncs up with the advertised weight of 7,365 pounds.

I was leaning toward a 2016 if it indeed has a lower weight, but a part of me wants the "latest and greatest" with the radiant heat and multiplex switches.

However, I just came across these photos of 2017 Firefly panels that clearly show the decal behind the acrylic is delaminating after just a few seasons.

That makes my decision pretty easy. I can't afford a 2019 with CZone's touch-sensitive metal buttons, and I don't want anything to do with the 2017-2018 Firefly delamination. So a boring old furnace with light switches 2015-2016 it is!

Now I just need someone to confirm that weight for me.

I’m sure you know that those panels are replaceable. No clue how much though. Ours have zero issues. I didn’t even know this was possible but it makes sense.

Weight

8095 - 2017 early ( made Aug 2016)
Our firefly panels seems to have a few issues. Superficial Cracks. All systems in my opinion are designed to last through warranty only. You’re smart to buy one with bugs worked out but the pristine new showroom look you can no longer expect.

Congratulations to Win & Kathy who picked up my old Airstream this weekend. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have these past 12 years.

It was a tough decision with lots of swings back and forth, analyzing pros and cons, furnace vs. Alde, switches vs. Firefly. In the end, I've placed a deposit on a 2016 with the old furnace and switches and will be picking it up in a few weeks.

Thanks for all the help from everyone in making a tough decision.

Next weekend I'll be heading down to Florida to pick up the 2016 Classic so I booked a few amazing sites along the Gulf coast today.

The first is near St. George Island where my back window faces the lighthouse across the marina channel and my awning faces the gulf.

The second is right on the water in Navarre with my own beachfront deck.

I can't wait to get the new trailer and start camping. It's been a long winter.

Nice! Congrats. We just made it down to the Keys. 85 and sunny yesterday. Looks like low 80s again today. Beautiful cross island breeze. Winter here is tough.

Operation Classic Upgrade is complete. I picked it up Monday and I'm currently in Port Saint Joe, FL enjoying 70 degrees before heading back up to the cold midwest.

It wasn't as pristine as I was led to believe, with a few dings and marks from the awning props. The counters have a lot of scratches but I'm going to see if Corian can be polished.

I spent the afternoon fine tuning. One of the speakers didn't work, the shower vent switch needed a spritz of contact cleaner, adjusted the water pump for smooth (non-pulsing) flow, topped off boiled dry original batteries, etc.

The hood vent lights don't work. The halogen bulbs don't look bad so I suspect it's the slider switch. I'll have to look into that.

The shower door also hits really hard on the bottom frame so I'll have to see how I can shim it to swing freely. Lots to do!

All in all I'm very pleased. The Classic is stunning. Love it.

Coriander polish

In answer to one of your questions the Coriander can indeed be sanded and polished because it is a solid piece and not a veneer surface. It is a multi step process with helpful YouTube videos demonstrating how to do it.

While at JC last year they had a kit to repair door dragging on the frame. Here’s a picture.

As the owner of a 2016 30' Classic, I agree with Joe. My rig, following some unfortunate needed repairs following delivery from the factory / dealer, I am happy with the rig and its technology. Yea, a little lower tech that more recent model but the relative simplicity is appreciated.
