Bill, for the folks that may want to support VAC, but not neccessarily the WBCCI proper at this time, does a prospective merchandise recipient need to be a Wally club member?
Not wanting to start another "discussion", just wanting to know if it's a condition of purchase.

Terry,

That is a good question and I don't know the answer. Although I am not sure why you would want the merchandise which says "Vintage Airstream Club WBCCI Intra-club" if you were not a WBCCI member. I don't know what restrictions we have with either WBCCI or Airstream on selling to WBCCI members only as I have not seen the licensing agreement with Airstream or any restrictions from WBCCI.

Perhaps Shari will see this topic and give us her opinion.

Bill

I was thinking about the forums members here that like the VAC, but not so much WBCCI as to be a member. They may wish to purchase merchandise to help you generate funds, and may never use or wear the items.

I am not asking for WBCCI numbers and I am not going to check my current directory, which is not always up to date anyway.

I have been informed that the licensing agreement with Airstream restricts us in selling only to current members of the Vintage Airstream Club. Please make sure that your dues are current before ordering anything.

Now that is very odd. Would you have to be a Ford owner to wear a Ford logo hat? Do you have to play for an NFL team to wear an NFL shirt with the team logo on it? Do you have to play with Tiger Woods clubs to wear his brand of golf clothes? No, I don't think so. It's free advertising for the club. The more the better, maybe some will join - that would be an improvement. Airstream needs to get over this strangle hold they have on the logo and move on. What are they going to do - recall the shirt if I join for one year and the drop out?

All Bill said was that VAC's licensing agreement limits VAC's sale of these items to members. [Which I agree is ridiculous.] Once you have bought a VAC-logo item I reckon you can do whatever you want with it--including selling it to a non-member--since Airstream doesn't have any licensing agreement with you!

As for me, I have a nice pre-licensing, non-IBT-approved VAC flag which I will have to be sure to fly at the International, if only to see if the WBCCI Kops make a fuss about it. [Unauthorized flag, don'tcha know. . .]

Cheers,
Nuvi

This merchandise looks great & I will be ordering some items soon. Will these items be available on the WBCCI web site and/or the VAC web site in the near future?

I have asked Toby Folwick, VAC webmaster, to post the order blank. I expect that there will also be information in future issues of the Vintage Advantage.

I have posted the notice on the WBCCI web site also.

Join and Then Buy

If I were a non-WBCCI/VAC member and wanted to purchase a VAC hat or flag I'd JOIN THE CLUB! That way none of us DUES PAYING members get heat from the WBCCI or Airstream for not meeting our agreement.

Just a thought..........
Ed

Just another reason to join the club

There is alot of WBCCI stuff for sale on the internet without any conditions. Not sure I understand why there would be conditions here. ???

One other question.....

Why would someone want to wear a logo from a club they don't belong to? For those getting ready to burn their keyboards up with the answer "we want to support the VAC", the way to support us is to JOIN THE CLUB!

As Woody Allen said in one of his movies, "Why would I want to join a club that would have someone like me as a member?"

Ed, for the record, I agree with you 100%. Support the club by joining the club, and get the T-shirt!

I don't play football for the N.O. Saints, but I have jerseys with their logo on it.

I'm not in the Navy, but I have shirts and hats with their logo on it.

I'm not in the NRA but I "support" them but buying some of their logo gear. They show their appreciation by sending me a magizine for a year FREE.

I'm not in Ducks Unlimited but I go to their auction and dinner nights and am welcomed as a non-member and I have lots of their stuff. Food is good too.

I would "SUPPORT" the VAC by purchasing their STUFF with my dollars. That is one way of helping the club and promoting the organization. Gets more viewing out to the public. I don't join because all the events are so far away, but I am a member of the WBCCI and do own a vintage AS and could JOIN THE VAC CLUB.

Mike, I guess it may come down to: (1)should it be a "privilege" of membership of VAC to to able to buy VAC merchandise. That way VAC knows those people financially support VAC by their membership. Or, (2), can VAC gain more support and raise more money by selling merchandise to the general public. Like a good attorney, I guess the argument can be made for both sides. Maybe VAC doesn't have the resources to produce large numbers of merchandise, I don't know. But it sounds like it just comes down to that "licensing agrement" with Airstream.

My New Flag is Here!

I just went out to get my mail and there was my new VAC flag ( the large size)! I will say it is a quality item and it looks great, I can't wait for my next rally to fly it.

Thanks Bill for doing a great job.

Man I'm glad I'm a member of the VAC and can get one of these new flags.
