Airtream accessory store shipping?

I chose a couple of kick knacks from the Airstream online store. Key chains, bumper stickers, etc. And with a $140 rivet kit the total came to $190. Great. But when checking out, they wanted $78 for shipping.

Huh?

UPS ground to Florida is nowhere near that much. $78 shipping for a few small items totaling less than $200 seem awfully expensive. Anyone else experience this?

No reason to buy overpriced rivets and gun from them. Local hardware store should have all you need and no jacked up shipping prices.

Really, even harbor freight has a very decent rivet gun for $9....
Very high quality rivets including Olympic rivets can be found at Fastenall.
I doubt there is originally $79 worth of rivets in any Airstream!

I have a small e-commerce business. To me it's unconscionable to profit from shipping. If someone tries to do it with me I always complain quoting the actual amount. Many times the rate is lowered.

Cheers,
John

Airtream accessory store shipping?

I figured it must be some sort of software error because I was planning on ordering 7-8 items and it added shipping for each one separately. Well, in any case, one lost sale because of excessive shipping cost.

This thread reminded me that I was looking for some Airstream lanyards for our WBCCI badges. I went to the Airstream store and placed two at $4.99 each in the shopping cart. When I went to check out I was informed that the shipping charge, for UPS ground, was $18.00! For two lanyards?!! Worse case they would fit in a fixed rate USPS Priority Mail box at a flat rate of five or six bucks. I abandoned the order as that is stealing.

How can they be so stupid?

John

The only way the Aistream store will ever get my business is if I am in Jackson Center. Most of the stuff they sell is available else where at much better prices. Free shipping with Amazon Prime.

Thumbs down Worst CS

I went so far as offering to send them a pre-paid priority mail envelope for two keychains......no-can-do was the only reply, like most things JC.... TJDGAD

I did fall for the shipping scam because I really needed a certain part, but NO MORE. I'll shop next time. When they mark up the shipping, that's is just a good example of a dishonest scam.

I agree that shipping charges like that are stupid. The Airstream Factory Store will just have to do without my business. I vaguely recall ordering a few things from the Airstream Factory Store a number of years ago, and the shipping charges were not anything like this. Airstream must have decided that they needed another profit stream.

I mean, if they have to charge a couple extra bucks for that lanyard to maintain a certain profit margin, then go for it. But to try and make it up in shipping?

Excessive shipping costs are not exclusive to the Airstream Store. FedEx, UPS and even the USPS are raising rates as fast as they can print price sheets. The price of fuel is no longer an excuse and labor contracts were pretty much settled last year. I suspect that there are some canned mail order software users that never really check out the real shipping and handling costs. I owned a mail order company and as long as I was covering labor, materials and actual shipping costs, that was acceptable. To make S&H a profit center is the quickest way to lose customers.

It's even worse ordering from JC if you live in Canada. They only ship UPS I believe - or at least they used to, I called once to see if they cold ship small item USPS and was told no.

UPS charge ridiculous brokerage fees to bring things into Canada - to the point that my feeling is they don't want that business and look to discourage it.

I learned this to my chagrin when I had to pay about $35 brokerage fee on a ten dollar item. USPS charges $5 - if anything.

I refuse to pay such fees and so never will buy anything from JC's store.

I think their prices are generally out of line anyway and so probably woud not even wothout the UPS issue! Paying for the name I guess.

Airstream Accessory store prices

A while back I went to the Airstream store website to order LED marker lights, can't remember the price but it seemed high plus shipping was extra. Shopped around on line and found the same ones for $9.59 at Trailer supply.

AS store

Hmmmmm. Seems to me the AS store was very reasonable on shipping a couple years ago. Maybe the shipping estimator has a bug and they don't know about it?
Sales drop off significantly, they may investigate. Like John said of John& Vicki; mention it to them. Maybe they will manually adjust.

Have a good one,
