Building new rear hatch

I have a 1960 ambassador that is sufficiently lacking in storage compartments. I'm redoing the interior layout and will be putting the bedroom at the rear of the trailer. Has anyone installed a compartment door between the bumper and the license plate? I've seen some later 60 models with one, wondering how to fab it?

Thanks!
