Need a volunteer inspector??
This idea comes up again and again, and it's a darned good one!
Let me volunteer for northern New England. If I can inspect your prospective purchase within 100 miles of Burlington, VT, let me know!
(That area includes the Adirondacks, northern and central VT, Montreal, northeastern NH).
Not a lot of Airstreams up here for sale but I thought I'd set an example. Come on, everyone, volunteer and let's see if we can get a network going!
this is copied from the older thread " so you want to buy a trailer that is three states away". I will try to clean it up and recreate the list as time permits. (alansd)
If you want to be on or off the list as it exists post here or PM me.

Count me in for the Tampa Bay area. A few weeks ago I posted some Airstream classifieds from our local paper, with the offer that I would check them out (to the best of my ability) if someone was interested. You'd think after 2 years of me crawling around every inch of my Overlander, that I would know something. Actually, most of what I know I learned here, and what I don't know... I will also learn here!
I also have a digital camera for hard proof!
I'm sure you all know that Airstreams go fast. Had I had money to burn, I recently missed a 1974 Tradewind (I believe) and an early Bambi. All within 2 miles of my home, and in great shape. I could kick myself!

I would be glad to inspect an A/S. Would it be appropriate to post a thread here that asked if someone would inspect an A/S at a particural location?

count me in
While I can't promise that I could always do it I will volunteer for my area of northern Illinois as is feasible. I'm about 40 miles west of Chicago.
Per later mentions:
I have a digital camera and can burn cd's
I would like to suggest a different title for this thread or perhaps listing it in a conspicuous place for easy retrieval later. This may already be addressed before my edit.

Great to see the volunteers coming out of the woodwork!
Here's a few suggestions for the volunteer inspectors:
1) Identify your area of geographic coverage (which everyone is doing already).
2) Mention whether you can take & send digital pictures. (I can, and I have previously burned a CD for a guy who wanted to buy a 3rd party Argosy 6.7 metre. The 80 pictures I sent him via mail turned out to be very helpful. It cost me just a couple of hours and about $2 to provide this service, and I was happy to do it.) A detailed set of closeups and various angles is probably the very best inspection report you can provide.
3) Let people know how you can be contacted. It's assumed you can be reached by Private Message on this forum. If not, give an alternate method.
If we get a couple dozen people, perhaps this thread can be summarized into a quick reference list and posted on the forum.
And for those who use this courtesy:
1) Consider offering to reimburse the Volunteer Inspector (VI?) for expenses. It's a valuable service for someone to drive 50 miles to take digital pics for you, and the offer of a few bucks to cover gas and mailing costs would go a long way toward showing appreciation!
2) Keep in mind that this is a free service provided by amateur enthusiasts. Don't expect a detailed condition report. Final inspection is still your responsibility. This is just a quick "sanity check" to save you hundreds of miles of unnecessary driving and/or multiple phone calls with the seller.
Just my suggestions ... comments welcome.

Inspections
I can do Santa Barbara, down to Orange County in Southern CA. I have a digital camera, and I think this idea is the bomb. Way too many people outright lie about thier trailer, where others are in plain denial about how crummy it really is. I would be happy to report accuratley what I saw, and document it on digital film.

I am in! i can handle eastern NC and coastal SC, anything within a 4 hour radius on Raleigh, NC, give or take. I can do digital or film, your choice. PM is the best way to get me.
Maybe we should start a "Look what I found" forum for people to report what is available in their area?

Sometimes it's just the contrary & the seller doesn't realize his AS is a gem and underestimates it.
I even saw a few unique Argosies at the salvation army in Anaheim California, and they had no idea of the value of these tax deductions given to them

Download The List Here
Here's the current list of people who have volunteered to inspect Airstreams and Argosies.
79 people covering 24 states and 2 Canadian provinces!
Updated as of March 17, 2005
(Send me a PM with any changes. If you try to contact someone on this list and they don't respond, let me know so I can remove them from the list.)
Keep those names coming! Thanks

Having just been through this experience on my very first AS......"everything works", "ready to go", sent more pictures, really nice person to talk to..........you know the drill, I'm offering my camera and time for the area between Bellingham, WA to Tacoma, WA. If you'll buy my gas, I'm up for even more distant excursions!

Central Ontario
Hi Everyone, We went to look at a 1977 27ft overlander last year advertised as a "diamond in the rough" and went on to say that it was in good condition and just needed some cleaning. Stored for ten years and sitting on its axles. I would not let my dog stay in it over night. We would be glad to central Ontario. We live 80 mile north east of Toronto.
