Front hitch/Receiver - 4x4 only?

okay fellow 'streamers, here's the question:

i want to add a front receiver to my 2009 f-150 crew-cab.

i plan to use is either to transport a bike rack or [rarely] to help in
parking my 22' ccd.

there are plenty of good-looking bolt-on options out there.

but it seems that all the sites refer to the need for a 4x4 TV - which mine isn't. some don't even list a option for just the 2 wheel drive.

so - is a 4x4 TV necessary for a front hitch/receiver add-on?

do any of you have a front hitch/receiver on a 4x2?

any input welcome!

I have them on at least 3 4x2 trucks. Not sure why they wouldn't list one, unless it needs part of the 4X4 components for mounting?

Ours were all welded up and installed by us for farm use.

I've been considering this front mounted hitch. From the reviews, it appears to have been installed on both 4x2s and 4x4.

I know that this question was 2009 4X2 specific, but I found a great product here:

Front Hitch for 2005 - Draw-Tite 65022

Front Hitch for 2005 - Draw-Tite 65022

During the mounting I saw nothing that appeared to be linded to a unique 4X4 installation, nor is there anything in the write up about installing only on either 2 or 4 WD.

This is one hell-for-stout hitch, best part is that everything fit...I did have to "rearrange" the factory mounted fog lights.

The Fog Lights required a new mount location and the front license plate holder was sacrificed.

thanks for all the quick replies. in response -

"I have them on at least 3 4x2 trucks. Not sure why they wouldn't list one, unless it needs part of the 4X4 components for mounting?"

- i am looking at bolt-on. maybe it has something to do with the add'l weight on the front end suspension? -

- that's a great looking hitch, probably over-kill for what i need. when i checked it out for the 2009 f-150 i foundthis:

" Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2"
4WD Models only "

" I've been considering this front mounted hitch. From the reviews, it appears to have been installed on both 4x2s and 4x4."

- according to the site they do not have one for the f-150 -

i guess for some odd reason there is no standard option for a front hitch. i might just be SOL. i may check directly with ford or one of their forums.

i sure don't want to buy one that looks okay and then find out that it just won't fit because there is an extra flange or off-set bolt holes.

Just a note of caution ... my 4x4 front hitch receiver will not handle the AS TW without a large amount of flex ... check the specs before buying.

I have a front-hitch mounted on my 2003 Yukon, and I use if for bikes, not for positioning my AS. I don't think it would handle the tongue weight of the AS. My particular brand is a "Hidden Hitch", and it bolted into position with no drilling, using existing bolts/holes, etc. It only took a few minutes. I do have a 4x4, but I just checked with AutoAnything (where I purchased mine), and the question of 4x4 or 4x2 doesn't come up. Frankly, I can't see how it would matter.
