Towing with Ford Excursion or Expedition
Thinking of swapping current Tow vehicle for a new Expedition or an Excursion .
Current TV is 2009 F150.
AS is 2014 25’ Flying Cloud.
Has anyone towed with either of the above?

I would think, you're doing nothing more than a swap of the F150 for the Expedition since they are both built on the same chassis. I've never towed with the Expedition, but have put over 550,000 miles between three Excursion's, and another 350,000 miles on the F250 truck chassis. If you're looking for a step-up, go to the Excursion, if you're looking for an enclosed cab, go for the Expedition.
Enjoy,

We tow a 27FB with our 7.3 Excursion and are quite happy. That said, I added a lot of stuff (anti-sway bars, Bilstein shocks, Red head steering gear box, DPTuner with towing options, Bendix brakes etc.) and many of my systems are manual. The newer vehicle tow packages add all the nice systems at the touch or the "tow" button. Plus mine is getting long in the tooth at 300K miles. If it ever quits, I'd look at a Navigator, Expedition Max, Yukon XL or GMC Savana van but I must say that the 10,000 lb towing capacity of my 2002 EX has made it a comfortable stable platform even carrying 7 passengers, gear and towing the Airstream over the Grapevine. We'll miss it when it's gone. - brad

Last model year for an Excursion was 2005. I tow a FC 25RB with a Navigator. Works pretty well and is very comfortable. Tongue weight limit might be a problem for a 25FB. Payload will be a factor for any SUV, obviously.

Yukon XL TV
We’ve been towing our 2015 FC FB with a 2016 GMC Yukon XL Denali with no problems for three years.
Plenty of power and wonderful ride!

Just took delivery of a 2020 Expedition max platinum with tow package. Here are some numbers that may be of interest per sticker: Max payload 1644 lbs. GVWR 7720. GCWR 15300. Front GAWR: 3550. Rear GAWR 4380. Max trailer 9000.

We did it.
We towed ou Flying Cloud 26 from Coastal NC to Utah, AZ, CO, and NM and back again with no problems at all. Our 2015 Expedition had the same engine as the F150. Had the HD towing package. The little engine is amazing.

We tow a 2014 25' Rear twin FC with a 2019 Expedition. It tows great and we love the vehicle. I put it on the scales and everything is within limits.

I had started with a 2015 19' Flying Cloud and towed it with our 2013 Expedition. This was a nice combination that I felt comfortable with (I never towed much at all before this).
When we upgraded to the 2017 25' Flying Cloud I felt a little concerned with the thought of having to brake in an emergency and for our eventual western mountain trips after retirement. Power was never an issue here in Minnesota or on our trips to Texas. Even with 15 to 30 MPH wind gusts from the side we got very little sway. We did eventually have mild warping of the front disk brakes (and I drive 59 MPH and never abused/sat on the brakes). The big issue was that we were always maxed out on the Expedition payload. Also I did not like the add-on tow mirrors compared to the large mirrors found on our new vehicle (F-250).
We moved to a F-250. I am much more calm towing now. Making lane changes are so much easier as I can immediately see the side/rear traffic with just a quick glance (with the small after market add-on mirrors I had to look for a few seconds). The purchase expense and low gas mileage sucks but is well worth it to me as I don't dread towing anymore. I don't have to drive the F-250 for much except trips so that helps - parking on edge of parking lots, side streets in towns, etc is a pain compared to the Expedition.

I tow with a 2005 Excursion with the 6.0 diesel. The suspension was redone with many mods, the hitch is a ProPride with the Superhitch receiver and the motor was done over at Bulletproof Diesel. It has been across the country 9 times and in some crazy mountain driving. A fantastic truck. They are getting old, you will likely have to put money into it.

Thanks for all the good info. Love my 2009 f150 but a few little things are starting to go bad and it looks like it's time to go new. A big incentive is all the safety accessories available. Also, the expedition/excursion will double as a great travel vehicle. Will now start looking at each to decide which is best for us. Such fun!

Pulled the trigger in January on a new 2020 Ford Expedition. Came with full tow PKG. Just hooked it up to our 2014 25' FC and all the bits match perfectly. Our first trip will be in a few weeks. Will know then if any tweeks are needed.
Already know that rear door does not clear the jack stand as installed. Might back the hitch out of the receiver by one hole.

Just took first trip with new 2020 ford expedition xlt. About 600 miles round trip with five nights at a campground in ft Myers.
Pulling our 2014 25 ft FC was effortless. Mileage around 15 mpg. Great smooth ride. Highly recommend. I will have to get extended mirrors added for better visibility.

Congrats on the new ride. We have the Lincoln version. I definitively don't get 15 mpg. More like 10.
I got clip on mirrors (pretty sure we have the same mirror shape) with two elements that strapped around the mirror housing. Hated them. So shaky that they were not much help. Just got Milenco Grand Aero 3. Much easier to install. They still shake, but with one big mirror, it is a lot more useful.

I plan to spring for the factory electric extended mirrors. Haven't had much luck with the aftermarket add-ons. Also found out the the hitch height on the expedition is about 2 inches lower that that of my earlier 2009 ford f150.
Best part was the factory tow-haul package. Everything is integrated. Including cameras and brakes!

I think they might be, hope they are since ford sets up the Expedition with an integrated tow package. Will advise.

Trail Ridge made replacement mirrors for the 2015 Expedition. I wonder how much retrofitting one would have to do to get them to fit on the 2020. It would be worth it in my opinion as all of the after market clip-on ones I tried on my 2013 Expedition were poor solutions.

With 3D printing being so widespread, I could see this being a fairly easy task for someone to build an adapter plate to fit it onto the 2020 Expedition.
