Suburban tire info ?

I have a 2004 Suburban 1500 with P265/70R/17 tires and they are needing to be replaced. I have contemplated putting on a LT type tire with a load range E for when I occaisionally tow the trailer. Will the factory tire pressure monitor system be affected since you can run higher air pressures ? Also will the factory aluminum wheels be affected by running a LT tire ? Thanks for any advice. I don't have the specifics on max pressure for your wheels in front of me, but someone will chime in soon that does. Ditto the pressure sensors. They should work just fine up to their limit. I use LT tires on my 1/2ton Yukon but I run at reduced pressures compared to the max rating on the tire casing.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what the high limit pressure is ? Also have you had any sway problems when you run at the reduced pressures ?

Has anyone else upgraded their tires to a LT type on a GMC/Chevrolet suv or pickup with the factory alum. wheels ? If so what is your experience ?

I haven't experienced sway with either the original equipment tires or the LT replacements. The originals I ran at 35 psi, their max rated pressure and the LTs at 45-50 psi. The LTs feel better than the originals in everyday operation. Be sure to see the thread by RDM16CCD about the relationship between the number of plys and blow out resistance.

There is no reason to increase the tire pressure because you are using E rated tires. In fact that is WRONG. Tire pressure is set by the weight on the axle not what is printed on the tire of the door post.

I run E rated Michelins on my 2500 Sub and my Excursion at 50 lbs. Please refer to the inflation chart for the correct pressure. Charts are the same for all tires of the same type and size by Federal Reg.

I took the burb in for a checkup and had new Michelin LTX A/S LR E tires put on and so far they are smooth. I have bought michelins before but it has been a while and these are the most expensive tires I have ever purchased but I hope they will last a long time. The dealer installed them and said there would be no problem with the tire pressure monitor system or the wheels. Can`t wait to see how they perform on the highway and with the trailer.
