OK, now vinny...
go take pix of the backside and UNDERside...
the business end of this trayla draggin' silliness.
only 64k$?
how bout a buck fiddy and a bicycle in trade?
the bike has been used occasionally for towing and i'll include the hitch/trailer with it...
i almost purchased one of these when they were still gray market and MAN am i happy that urge passed...
it reminded me a lot of the old beetles (and type 131s ) , only with more boost.
(front glass/windowz and doors are retro hinged) and it really does look like 60s beetles AND things...
of course the DRIVETRAIN is at the wrong end...
in the merc'
cheers

You can tow an Airstream with anything as long as you use a ProPride hitch.

Not much to grab onto
Ok.. so I see what 2air is yapping about. There is not much to attach to.
Lots of big plastic fuel tank in the way. This bracket sits behind the rear bumper and from there i dont know what you would do?!

your notes are starting to rhyme, perhaps u've been sniffing fumes again?
__________
in terms of 'where to attach' it's just a matter of finding the frame rails OR 4 layer reinforced unibody points...
the building somethin'
our german friends have been working on exactly this issue for decades and here is a picture from the uberskunkworks lab...
designs evolve and a more recent example of the receiver contraption is shown here...
actually THATz a rejected design, but the effort lead to this one which is height n width adjustable ...
most recently the southcarolinalabama german design team has come up with a contraption that attaches directly to ...
that 3 point star emblem on the tire cover...
it's got a double secret gyro'celorometer inside to control swayin'
cheers

It is ironic Airslide, I said the same thing when I reviewed the back and underneath of our current TV. When the pro at Can Am looked at it he said, "well we have a number of options". Getting the professionals involved who build these things on a day to day basis is sometimes a good idea. It is interesting to note that frame rails were not used in our professional layout which has been working great for 5 years now.

So i guess the final question is with Andy at Canamrv: Did you reinforce the MB hitch set? if yes, how
OR , did you install a third party product?
Keeping my car and have an AS is my goal but, as other posters mentioned, I am not looking to kill others, my family and myself for it. Therefore, a reliable solution is needed, which seems the case for two of Andy's customers.

Hi Gamana
On one unit we strengthened the existing MB hitch on the other we made the entire hitch but used the Mercedes mounting position for the rear of the hitch. I am not sure there is anyone around Miami able to do this for you. We can easily add one to your Mercedes but 1500 miles is a long way to drive for a trailer hitch.
The other option we have is to borrow a G500 build the hitch here and ship it to you for installation there. However G500's are not exactly plentiful around here so it might be hard to find one to borrow.
Possibly you might be to arrange with your Airstream dealer to pick the unit up at the factory then you could come here for the hitch and take the Airstream home to save the freight charge which might help justify the trip.
Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
Just for any others with the Factory hitches on ML's GL's or G wagons. All of these hitches need strengthening to tow Airstreams.
Thanks
Andy

We sold our 16ft Bambi to a couple from Florida who drove up to Utah to pick it up and then toured the country on the way back home, their mercedes pulled wonderfully but I am not sure how it would do with a 27th Airstream... Their set-up sure looks good though....

Nice mogger Air01 but way to much grunt and not enough pizazz.
If money was no object I would want something like this AMG. A great design that complements the aerodynamic shape of the Airstream.
