Hello to Greece!

I only found the data for the new 115Hp 316i on the BMW.com Site. It says there that you can pull a 670 kg unbraked trailer or between 1250 kg on a 12% or 1600kg on a 8% uphill road with brakes.

Maybe it helps, otherwise I would contact a local BMW dealer or submit a question on the BMW site, they should help.

Bye from Germany

Björn

Putting into Airstream perspective, you could barely tow a 16' CCD and I am sure that 1250kg does not include passengers, cargo, fuel, etc which would lessing the 1250kg range making the BMW suggested not able to tow even a 16' CCD.

My suggestion would be to get a different tow vehicle if you plan on towing somthing more than a jet ski.

For what it's worth, I would not tow much of anything with a BMW sedan. Before I got into Airstreams, I had a small Jayco pop-up and a 5-series BMW - the trailer was less than 1000 pounds, well within the tow rating. I got the approved hitch and had it professionally installed, but the problem is that there is no frame to speak of in the rear of the car. It's uni-body construction and the frame rails are relatively thin and made of stamped steel.

Within a few months, the hitch started tearing thru the frame rails and started pulling the bumper off the car. I had plates made and welded to the frame to reinforce the attachment points, but was never comfortable after that and got rid of the car shortly thereafter.

I can't speak about your 3-series, but I would look closely at how your intended hitch would attach.

ACHALAT.. If you are still interested have a look at what BMW's are towing in Europe.

This WMV shows A BMW convertible towing a TT. Looks good to me. It also shows how their stabilizers (sway controllers) eliminate sway, (Non WD).
