28' Intl CCD Signature L Seat Conversion Completed

I'm posting this on a new thread since so many people have had "issues" with this very uncomfortable L seat lounge which is standard on the 28'. Project is now finished. You can see from photos that I cut back the short side of the L to just cover the WH, electrical panel, etc. I moved both the inverter (I have a 2000W model), and the subwoofer. The new cabinet has an upper level, inside it is deep enough to hold even a tall vodka bottle, a lot of wine, and several 6packs of other beverages. Light goes on when you lift the top (used a car door open switch and a 12V LED light). The lower cabinet has storage as well and provides access. You'll note that I elected to cover the wire run from the tongue (7 pin, battery wires, etc), with a box covered with ultra leather. Also used a LOT of cording that I made from ultra leather to finish the edges. Continued the same motif of FLOR carpet tiles that I'd done earlier. Now waiting for delivery of the recliners! BTW, the cushion that a remade is filled with 3 inches of memory foam vice the awful, thin foam that was in there. VERY pleased with the results.

Here's a photo with the addition of the two recliners. Think my trailer is a LOT more comfortable with this set-up, and I'm going to enjoy having a place for "bar storage" as well.

Great solution to a difficult problem. That looks really, really nice keeping the original factory materials in the scheme. We removed our front interior furniture and put in the same reclinerzzzzzzzzz.

Your big problem is being so comfortable traveling you're no longer anxious to come home.

Doug, your post was my "source" for the recliners. And, wow, I love following Skatiero's up fit of the "new" trailer. Was at Alumapalooza last year, but didn't get to visit. Hope we can meet up at this year's rendition. Honestly, I learn so much from people who post here -- though I'm beginning to wonder if I should add up what all these "improvements" have cost. No, on second thought, THAT is not a good idea! Barry

That looks great! Curious question to the recliner folks - how do they stay in place during towing?

Tom, Doug had posted that his didn't move around. The design of the base leads me to believe it ought to be pretty stable. There are four nylon feet that fit up against the base. Since I have carpet squares, it's not likely that they'll move around, as when I put them in they didn't slide very easily. (If I want to recline, I'll have to move the recliner away from the wall a couple of feet.)

Mine don't move around, in about 3,000 miles towing so far. I think they could shift a little on really rough roadways but they're padded and upholstered all around so can't hurt much. I imagine you could hook something up to hold them if needed.

Greetings BAB - Just checked out your conversion work and I must say it looks really good! I'm noting you have run some type of piping along the edge of the cabinet you built. Is that just there to finish things off? Also I see in your cabinet design you seem to have cabinet access from the top and a drawer in the very bottom is that correct?

I'm starting to think about different options for my unit and need to get as many ideas as possible before I take the plunge.

Very good analysis! Yes, I took some of the Ultraleather that I repurposed from cutting one of the cushions and did cording with it to make a finished edge. Had enough to use it in a couple of other spots that I thought needed a more tailored look. And, yes, the cabinet design includes top access -- which is deep enough to hold tall bottles (ahem!)....and also, yes, I put an access at the bottom -- which is great storage for equipment --- like an electrical accessories box with fuses, extra wire, multimeter, etc. Just got back from the Region 3 WBCCI rally -- and there was lots of interest in this reconfiguration. I can tell you that having lived with the recliners for awhile really convinces me that this (for me) was an ideal solution to the problem of the uncomfortable L seat.
