Building a new garage for 25' Safari

The height of our new garage is going to be 13' to the ceiling.

For those of you who have built separate garages for you AS, what is your height?

Will post pictures.... once it starts taking shape. It's a husband/wife project with neighbors helping us raise the walls.

Post I don't think you need to worry

Hi Gail,

Our Barn doors are 13'9" and the ceiling (under the loft) is 13'11". I've attached pictures of "The Tube" in her stall, she has tons of head room!

Post We have plenty of electrical outlets

George,

We have plenty of electrical outlets! My husband is an Electrical Designer who holds a Electrical Masters License in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts and it's "his" barn so it's completely outfitted.

Of course I've got extension cords and power strips for all my office equipment in the house, but the barn is all set.

Did you guys build your own barn? We started raising the walls today, and boy....it is scary raising something 13' tall. We need the jolly green giant here to help us out! Thanks for the offer Michelle! We'd take you up on the offer, if you lived closer.

Nope, we hired a barn specialist

We just could not find the time to do it ourselves within our lifetime so we hired a local company who's speciality is pole barns and they did all the work (the exception being the electrical work, Leon did this).

But, that being said Leon was born on a farm and raised many a barn in his time.

One of the best things we did was to put all the services underground, we even did the house wires. Since we had to hire a fellow to dig up the area for the barn and future garage we just had him (for a not so small additional charge) dig up an area for the house wires and Leon completed all the electrical work with the exception of the connections by the service companies (cable, telephone and electrical). It's a great look!

Airstream garage

Our new garage is 24'X30' with 12' ceiling. We used 2X6 studs and a truss roof with 2X6 top chords on 16" centers. We used 5/8" sheet rock over 6" of insulation in the walls and 10" overhead. Our overhead door is 10'X18' and it is 3" thick. The garage outside is covered with 5/8" plywood under western red cedar 1"x12' board and bats. It has no heat, but the inside temp here in N. Central IL , even in 10F degree weather never fell below 42F. Our 25' classic and f350 are pretty snug in there. We have plenty of room to let the truck doors swing wide open without hitting the side of the trailer.

What a relief not to have concern over the effects of sun light and rain or the ever possibility of hail.

We used three 8' flourescent lights centered longitudinally on the ceiling with one positioned laterally between them. We then put one 8' light centered horizontally on each side wall about 3' down from the ceiling. The tubes will light in -15F temps. The side lights are switched separately from the others. It sure is nice for waxing the truck or trailer.

Our's is 30'w x 40'd x 13'11"h under the loft)

We had ours built to hold the biggest A Series Airstream Motorhome available at the time in one of it's bays. We park our 25' Excella Classic and my folks current 31' 2001 Airstream Motorhome in it for now. The "Rents" were/are talking about upgrading to a newer, bigger Airstream Motorhome so we tried to make sure whatever they got it would fit in the barn.

We also added 2 interior 30 amp service outlets in the barn and 1 exterior 30 amp service outlet. This is in addition to the 1 30 amp service outlet on the side of our house.

Our 30x50 garage has a 12 foot door and 14 foot walls. Its a steel building with skylights, 3 doors and is insulated. It has plenty of outlets including a 30 amp RV plug. Also has a 150000 btu heater.
