Which Power jack Husky or Lippert or?

Hi,

I'm new here and have a 16' Bambi. I am looking for a power jack as a christmas present, overkill I know but.... I am looking at the Husky 82084 4000lb or the Lippert 285318 3500LB. I like the idea of the ball screw drive and the looks of the Husky with the AS but the Lippert got better Amazon reviews. I have read about water issues on the husky but neither comes with a cover? is it needed?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have a Lippert 1817941 which is discontinued and is apparently the predecessor to the 285318 in the Amazon listing you link to. It appears identical to the one in the listing. The previous owner installed it and it has worked for me with no issues. If you want a really good quality jack the Barker series are good jacks.

https://www.barkermfg.com/power-jacks.html

They are USA made and the Ball screw model will last a lifetime on your Bambi.

A friend bought a cover that is a heavy leather like vinyl with a strap sewn all the way from one side over the top to the other with D rings on the ends for hanging the safety chains and they help to hold the cover on in the wind.

The cover is useful for preventing water intrusion into the jack, no matter how well it seems to be sealed, and for preventing UV damage to the plastic and rubber parts of the jack head.

I am currently using a very thin cover with a draw string and slide lock on the string. It came with a trailer cover I used. The cover deteriorated and the trailer is now stored inside, but I still use the jack cover. I added a HUSKY TOWING 81497 UNIV Connector Storage KIT

To hang the 7 way plug and protect the open end from the weather, and I have a Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch so I just hang my chains over the BOSP brackets on the tongue.

This is interesting and designed for the Lippert jack. Clever Cover for LCI Jack by Trailersphere Custom Electric Tongue Jack Cover for Trailer, RV, Camper, Chains Holder, Plug Protecto

I’ve been happy with Barker.

If my Husky 5000 dies, I'll get another.
The good features outweigh it's quirks so far.

I installed a Husky 4000 on my 2018 Bambi 16 over a year ago. Moved it over to my 2022 Bambi 19. Has worked great with my Blue Ox hitch. Plenty of power and lift. No signs of failure.

I don't think Lippert makes very good products. Those with Husky's on this Forum seem quite happy.

Follow the link for the covers I posted. I do not have any affiliation with them, but they apparently make covers for many different brands of jacks. I might even buy one if the cheesy thin cover I am using gives up on me.

I am confused by your pictures....the head apparently looks to be in two different directions, based on the switch view? Did you manage to do a factory bolt on the hitch install and shift the head? Just trying to figure out for tailgate issues.

Husky HB4500 installed 10 yrs ago on my 30' Classic, yeah it has a heavy tongue weight. You push button it extends, push other way it retracts. If it quit I'd get another one. Ball screw is a big plus, its lots quieter than the old one and it does have tools to release and hand crank but never been used.

I turned the head sideways to clear my tailgate (barely)
If you look at the bolts, you see I made new holes 30º from the factory ones.
Why 30? Well, the holes are drilled at 120º spacing(three bolts). So to turn 90º, one has 120-90 = 30º.
You can also see I turned it curb side because that rubber cap on the bottom is for the brake release. You have to flip a lever to use the hand crank.
I did a post about the details.

No 'tailgate' issues with our Suburban. I did not rotate the head.

Thank you for the clarification. I have tailgate issues so am sorting through installing the one I have sitting in the shop.

Depending on whether you are using a Weight Distribution Hitch and what brand, you can find a shank that is an inch or two longer, and get you the clearance.

I have a Blue Ox Sway Pro on my SOB trailer, and the distance from the pin hole that holds it in the receiver, to the vertical row of holes that the head mounts on (center to center) is 9 inches, while many other hitches use 8 inches. (you can also find 10 and 12 inch versions of the shanks).

Shanks are standard, the hole spacing of the vertical row of holes is the same, no matter the brand, and they are 2 inches wide, so you can put a Blue Ox shank and an Equalizer head together if you want.

That's great information. What causes confusion is different brands measure their shanks differently. Brand A might have a 16" shank, but measure from front to back, while Brand B has a 16" shank but measures between the holes.
I like e-Trailer, because if you find a shank, their video shows it with a tape measure.
Drilling a new hole is not as easy as thought. The drill bit must be perfectly perpendicular to the shank, or else the pin won't go through.

I got the Husky 82084. I haven’t used it much but so far I like it, quiet, powerful, and it looks like it was made for the AS. I have a Blue Ox and a short tailgate so it works well mounted straight.

If you're thinking of turning the Husky sideways, notice the screw that is waiting to scratch your propane cover. I covered mine with a small square of silver industrial Velcro (fuzzy part).
Sadly, I learned the hard way first.
