Electric jack quit working 2018 25rtb

Just went to check on my brand new AS and the electric jack doesn’t work. Battery is on and I checked fuse. It’s plugged in to 30 amps at a covered storage facility. Any ideas?

I would check to make sure it has a good ground. Use a volt/ohm meter and make sure power is coming through the fuse. They could look good but still not function. Good luck. Hope this is not a bad sign as I have a 2019 on order. Dave

Is it a Barker jack?

If it is, it could be that the toggle switch needs replaced. I just had to do this on our 2015 23FB.

call Barker customer service. I found them very helpful.

Hi Steamy1,
Smack the thing with a piece of wood. That's how I "fixed" mine. Jim

Check the connection on both sides of the fuse. I have my trailer in now for warranty work and the connectors were not crimped or soldered. Hope that helps. I would have to push the wires in until they made contact with the fuse.

Same thing happened to my 2019 - the jack just quit working. I took the cover off and found the person who crimped the spade ends on the wires coming from the battery didn't know how to crimp ends. I crimped them on properly and have had no trouble since. The crimp was so light on the original ends, that I was able to put the wires right back in them and properly crimp.

Does your jack have a light on it? That can tell you if you have power.

However: There have been cases reported where the wiring has a poor connection, such that the light comes on bright enough to see, but the jack motor won't turn at all.

Like NoResults says, you can have a bad fuse. It's always a good idea to have a couple of spare jack fuses around (we blow one or two a year), so get a few and swap in the new one, just to see.

BTW, NAPA auto parts stores usually have a better selection of fuses than the other chain stores. The Barker jack on our 2013 trailer calls for a 30-amp slow blow fuse. Slo-blows are hard to find, so we use normal 30 amp fuses, but we blow more fuses as a result.

Most likely it’s just a bad jack. Mine stopped working the day I got home with my new 25 FB. I called the dealer and AS sent a new one out and they installed it right away.

Check fuse connection first. Most likely very simple. Happened to me one time and that is all it was.

Mine on my new 2018 was also blowing fuses at the limits. They replaced it. In the end, though, I needed more weight capacity to deal with our weight distribution hitch and also wanted something quieter. The Husky HB4500 is under $200 on Amazon. A night and day difference, much smoother and quieter. Easy to install.

Mine stopped as well and it turned out to be a $10 switch, available from Barker. Unscrew the the 2 rubber toggle switch covers, and the 2 screws holding on the jack cover. The switch has 6 wires. I also ordered a nice, black jack cover from Barker that should keep everything nice and dry in the future.

My stock Attwood jack had me stranded. It would go up but not down, and the manual crank was impossible to turn. I think the post got jammed. But I couldn't release the coupler or drive away.

I changed to a Husky 5000, I am very happy.
A remote for the jack? It's great to adjust the level fore and aft while inside the trailer! However, don't keep the remote in your pocket because it just might activate. Ahem, I know.

The electric jack in my 2017 FC 20 ft. quite working about a month ago. I bought some new 30 amp fuses at Ace, but have yet to go out in the cold blowing rain to try them. Hope that's the fix. I'm going to purchase a cover with place for a padlock too - just in case the neighborhood kids may have played with it - it was lowered all the way down and left "on", with no light. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yep. Exact same thing happened to us on our 3rd trip out with our 2017 FC. I used a bottle jack and wood blocks to relieve the pressure on the Atwood so I could get it retract. It was a real pain to level the trailer that way. Atwood (or the outfit that bought their business) sent me a new one, which I installed. When/if this one dies I’ll replace with a Husky.

This is perfect timing for this post. We had the umbilical cord hooked up to our tow vehicle, but had the kill switch engaged for the trailer battery. The jack (original to our 1966 trailer) would not work. We turned on the trailer battery - nothing. We hooked the trailer up to city power and then the jack would work???

I'm thinking it may just be wise to replace the jack (particularly like the ones with a built in light), but don't want to get in over my head.

Thoughts?

I just ordered new switches for my Barker jack. 6 years old and at the end of this season, it was getting temperamental on the ups/downs. If those don’t work, I’ll replace the whole jack system. Cheap stuff first [emoji3]

Good morning all. My problem turned out to be the 30 amp fuse. When I first removed it it looked intact, but put in a new one and it worked. May have blown due to light left on when last parked. Will keep a supply of fuses!

Before you replace the jack, you should make sure you have 12V power to it.
Changing the Jack is pretty easy, but I wouldn’t change it I didn’t have to.

SSM, i took your lead...new switch a handful of the rubber toggle covers that seem to last only one winter and...woohoo..drum roll...a new vinyl cover to keep the moisture out. First cabin

Temperamental...no up, but down would work...then up would work...some times. It was a crap shoot. Never had to get the crank out on the 3 month trip but figured it was only a matter of time and certainly sure to happen at a time that was not of my choosing or convenient.
