Angry Screen door broken

Does anyone have available the part pictured? Some kids broke in and wrecked some stuff. It goes on the screen door and slides to cover the access to the entry door handle.

You can get those at any Airstream dealer or the factory store.

I was noticing that you are missing the door latch.Did yours break? mine broke and I'm looking for a replacement. Either that or weld up the broken innards. So have you any spares? Thanks Tim

It isn't cheap...

For a pretty simple piece of molded plastic, they're expensive... Our Airstream dealer marked it at $24.95... Old or used ones could be pretty brittle and not last long, as the plastic has a useful life.. Very reminiscent of royalite trim used in some aircraft...

Inland RV sells it as Part 84119 on sale at $15.75...

It requires trimming (very carefully, as over-trimming renders it useless..) and looks much better if painted before assembly in gray to match rest of screen door...

They broke mine latch too. My latch was not original and was put in over a plate so I think I can take care of that fairly easily.

Thanks for the help. I might be going not too far away from inland mid January.

I went for the cheapest solution which you may consider in a pinch: a simple scrap piece of aluminum with a finger hole in it. It's not ideal of course because you need to remember to slide it open before closing the main door or the door handle bends it when they collide. I have a picture in my web log under May. Sheet styrene would work too or if you think about it you may be able to engineer something better...

Good luck,

Steve

another method

do this with a chunk of acrylic, get it from a plastic supply place. theres gotta be one in Reno! The pics pretty much sum it up.The roller catch on the plastic releases when you close the door, then the plastic door swings free, then you secure it with the little knobie homemade keeper.A project to keep you busy in your retirement.

dmadam,
Those are pretty generic depending on the year of your Airstream the current ones available at your local RV dealer should fit, if not they can be cut to size. Take the pieces of the old one with you for comparison as they come in several different configurations.

Screen Door Latch - Inside Needed

We need to find the latch that holds the screen door closed to the frame (on the inside). Our dog has figured out how to push open the makeshift roller thing someone has installed. I took a portion of a photo someone posted of what it should look like. We have the white plastic part rivited to the door frame but are missing the latch part. Any idea where we can get it or something that will work? The InlandRV latches look like our outside latch, not something that will work with the white thing rivited to the door frame. If anyone has a better photo of what it SHOULD look like that would be helpful as well.

The Latch you Need

Anne, the black portion of the latch is the part used to hold the door closed. You have to buy the whole thing either from Inland or from Airstream. I've also seen them on Ebay.

There are still Airstream dealers out there who sell that part; you just have to hunt for it, like I did for my bathroom light cover. Don't let someone tell you to replace it with something new and live with it.

Thanks.
Anne
Anne.

The original screen door latch has not been available for years.

There are two choices.

You can get the lock part # 18693.

Or, you can convert that latch to the exterior entrance door holdback that you have on your trailer.

The later is better, in that it is much heavier duty.

Hundreds of owners have switched to the entrance door holdback, for the screen door.

Here is a set of 4 latches on Ebay that you can part the black latches from.
