battery replacement

I would like to replace the single 12 volt battery in my 69 safari with 2 6 volt agms. Does anyone know if 2 six volt batteries will fit in the same space as the 12 volt does now? Thanks.

The short answer is NO...your existing 12 volt battery is most likely a Group-27 model, which is about 12 inches long, by about 6-1/2 inches wide...

The 6 volt (golf car) deep cycle batteries have a 'footprint' of 10 inches x 7 inches wide - EACH. so you will need a space of about 20 x 7 for end-to-end, or a space of 14 x10 for side-by-side mounting.

ALSO, the 6 volt's are about an 1-1/2 taller than the 12 volt's, so you'll need more clearance as well...

The 6 volt's are great for use in RV's, if you have the room...you'll get about 225 total Amp Hours of capacity, where as the G-27, 12 volt has about 100 Amp Hrs of capacity...

Hope that helps...Ray

If it helps, you could think of your single 12 volt battery as two 6 volt batteries conveniently living together in one box. That's what it really is. Ok, it's really six 2 volt batteries living on one box compared to two boxes of three 2 volt batteries, but you get the idea. If you only have that much room, one battery that fills the space is the way to go.

batteries replacement

I just had solar intalled and 300 AH AGM batteries installed at the same time by AM Solar in Oregon. They had a near by machine shop that was making heavy gauge aluminum covers for the batteries higher size that look great and provide a clean way to fit the big boys in the existing space. I have a 2007, 23 ft. Safari SE. (cost about 150.00 for the new covers, over doubled by amp hours)
