Adding batteries

We have a 2017 30 classic, it has the factory solar and a previous owner added two more 90 watt panels and two 6v crown 220 AH batteries. The work was done by an AS dealer. We want to add two more batteries and change the factory converter. Should we add another battery brand as there is no Crown dealer here? Which converter should we use? Does the factory solar charge controller do a good job, does anyone know its specs etc.? The local AS dealer will do the work and install the two new batteries under the couch leaving the others outside in the box.

Hello fellow Washingtonian!! As I understand it, it is not a good idea to put lead-acid batteries inside your trailer that are not vented to the outside. If you switch to lithium batteries ($$$$) you will be okay doing that. I am not sure about AGM batteries, I think they are sealed; if so they can be installed inside.

Then it's probably okay to put them inside. Mixing old and new batteries on the same charger/converter is usually not a good idea. If the "old" batteries in your setup are relatively new, then you would probably be okay. As for the specifications for your charger/controller, get its make and model number and look it up online.

These batteries and the additional solar panels were installed about a year ago...very very little use. I’m wondering about mixing brands. I believe Crowns are a good battery...they’ve been around since the 1920s and do a lot of industrial work. But we do have Trojans available and I think they are good.
