Where to Dump?
Just curious as to where yall dump if you boondock or need to dump when not in a standard park with a dump station? Do rest stops have dump stations or do you just hold it? New axles due from inland rv at the end of the month and will be on our first trip since purchase last August 06.
thanks in advance.
James

Truck stops, some rest stops, gas stations sometimes have them. We stop at a State Park near our house and dump before we get home if we need to. There's lots of places. You'll learn to watch for 'dump station' signs!

If you are on a city sewer system check next to your driveway to see if the sewer "clean out" for your house is accessible to your trailer. Most are 4" lines and go directly into the sewer system. And it is effluent I would have added to the system if I had been home. I just make sure I don't use additives that "kill" septic systems--they are hard on any system. I wouldn't do this to a septic tank/drainfield system because the "instantaneous" volume going into the septic tank can, in some circumstances, "short circuit" in your tank and permit solids to enter the drainfield.

In addition to those listed above, most campgtounds have a dump station. Most charge if you're not camped there.

Hi James, check my Cheap or Free postings in the Boondocking section for places to dump. Besides listing Cheap or Free Camping spots, I also listed Dump locations. For Texas, check post number 5 here: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f386...xas-21700.html

Some rest stops & welcome centers have them too.
Although we added one at home...just in case we have to "hold it". It's great for when we use the trailer as a second guest room. Wish our yard was big enough for courtesy parking...we have all the amenities, just no room for more than 1-1/2 trailers...once we add on to our slab back there, we will be able to fit our two...but definately no more.

I'ved noticed that while dump stations are pretty available in the midwest, west and south, they get pretty scarce up in new england. I used RVDumps.com on our last trip to find a "dump station". It turned out to be the Lowell MA Water Treatment plant. Without getting into too much detail (trust me you don't want the details), this was nothing more than metal grate on the ground where the local septic companies empty their trucks.
No a pleasant experience at all. I would strive to find one at a campground or Flying J where they have a "proper" RV dump station for RVers.

I haven't had any issues being full while out, but I do have a PVC poke through next to the house for rodding out the lines and such. I have on many occasions simply poped the cap and used that, attaching the garden hose to the black tank flush. Seems to work well. I know that if you have a septic system you might want to be careful what black tank chemicals you use, but with city sewer (as I have), it all gets treated and weeded out.

If you get The Next Exit guide (gives information about what businesses/services are at exits on Interstate highways), they list dumps as well (like at rest stops). We LOVE that book, since we do a lot of Interstate travelling, and I can plan our stops by what restaurants and shopping are at what exits.

Outdoor Shower
I have a utility shower outside - and some BIG towels that I can hang around me (TRUST ME, in my case that's a good thing!) I've never taken a long shower that way, but I can take a quick "PTA" shower and no one has yelled at me yet for the water that goes on the ground.
It came in very handy for a neighbor's dog which had had a disagreement with a skunk, too.
