Raise ride height
I have a 1973 29 ft with torsion bar suspension. The wife and I enjoy camping away from the mainstream. I have trouble getting into many locations because of the low ride height. Does anyone know of a viable way to lift my trailer 3 to 6 inches? The axles are in good shape, but I suffer frequently from 'tail-drag'. Thanks in advance!

New axles if they don't have a good down angle can add a couple inches. Dexter sells a lift kit that will add about 3". Between the two you can get about 5". Bigger tires if they fit may add 1/2". More than that you'd have to get some custom lift brackets made.

Thanks, Hi Joe, for your response. I have not yet crawled under with intent, this year, but checked my axles last year and down angle seems within specs. Are these Dexter axles? Does anyone know where to purchase the appropriate kit? I can cut and weld as necessary, but would like to have a proven plan before I start. I rather wish it were leaf springs, as I have lifted many trailers in the past, but hopefully, now that I have an example of the best trailer ever built, I can do this one time and enjoy it 'til I croak?

Hi
How level is your trailer? An inch of "down" at the front likely gets you near an inch of "up" at the back.
If you take a look at how the axles tie into the trailer, you can fabricate blocks to get to pretty much any height. Obviously the taller they are the fancier they would have to get. How wise this is ... that's a different question.

The trailer is nearly level when hooked up to truck. I removed original black tank and installed a 30 gal. gray tank, when we went to composting toilet this year. I had to drop the belly pan 2 inches at the rear of the trailer to accommodate gray water tank and drain. The trailer has always been too low in the rear to go off road much, now it is worse, and sometimes drags the rear overhang when hitting dips, etc. The wife and I like to get off grid, when camping, so need to raise trailer during the off season and install solar power and more batteries, to accommodate old man necessities, like O2 generator, sleep machine and the wifes' hair equipment. Gettin' old ain't fer sissies!

They are Dexter axles. Colin Hyde is a good source for new axles. If you google "airforums dexter axle lift" you'll get many results where people have detailed their installation. Etrailer sells the lift kits, just be sure to get the one that matches your trailer axles.
