Part of our restoration of our '74 International was repainting the red, white and blue colours on the wheel covers. The wheels themselves were painted a blue to match the blue vinyl trim.
Our problem occurred on our first trip out last year.
Two wheel covers came off. One we have no idea where it went the second came off as we were going through a small town and I heard it hit the pavement and saw where it went in the mirror and was able to recover it.
After inspecting the covers I see all the retaining clips are in place.
Is it possible that the new paint is slippery enough that it isn't allowing the clips to bite in and hold?
The two covers that remained on have spun in the rims somewhat and I noticed that because the valve stems are not at a right angle with the wheels any longer.
I am hesitant to attempt to bend the retaining clips for fear of breaking them. Any suggestions most appreciated.
