Tire Pressure???

Good Morning Happy Thanksgiving!

Leaving on a short trip to the Nevada desert with the family today and I would like to get some opinions on what is the best tire pressure to run a fully loaded trailer with dual axles? Also, has anyone used a radiator style heater inside the trailer? I just got a new Honda 2000 gen. and we need to keep warm!!!!! 20 deg. at night is a little chilly for us So. Cal. folk!

Check the Max Pressure Rating on the sidewall of the tire.

Porky's right. I run mine at the max that is rated on the tire. Keeps the friction and the heat down which prevents a host of problems. Make sure you check and inflate them cold though. Also, when you get a chance I'd recommend having the valve stems swapped out for metal ones. It's only a few bucks per stem and many tire "blowouts" are actually the stems abrading and/or failing. Be safe and enjoy your trip.

Here's a pressure chart for Good Year tires. Might help make you understand why proper tire inflation is so important for safety.
Also, i find the 65mph speed rating interesting. Can't tell you how many times I have been passed by toy haulers pulled by souped up Diesels doing 80.

While the max pressures/load ratings on the sidewall are one way to start the most informative discussion on this topic that I've seen is back back a-ways in this forum.
Go back about 5 pages and look for Silvertwinkie's post on Tire Pressures. Scroll down to AccessMaster's reply. Very good info.
I've used this system for a while and found it works great. If I fill the tires on the GT to max it hops around and there is a greater chance of the wheels locking up during braking. Remember the contact patch is technically smaller and harder the more air pressure or lighter the load on the tires.
I've been in the car biz for 30 years and it's not uncommon to see cars come in from the quick lube places with 50 psi because the kids think more is better. Always aim for the pressures on the sticker or in the manual.

I had a neighbor in the RV park who had one of those oil-filled radiator type heaters that he liked and bragged on, but that was with 30-amp hookup. He also kept his overhead fan in the A/C running when he used it. I take it that you *don't* plan to power it from the Honda? Heck, one would have to look at the running amps of the unit to see if it would work. Heat is GOOD, and I suspect that the generator might be able to power both the electric heater AND the blower in the A/C. (I think most plug-in heaters are 1500-1750 wattts.)

Let us know what you find out.
