Carlson Floor Heater

My airstream has a Carlson heater in the floor. It is flush with the floor inside and sticks out (vented, I guess) underneath the trailer. Angie said she had never tried to light it, and I am kinda afraid to try it. Does anyone know about these heaters? Can they be fixed and used or should it just be there for historical interest?

I would take it to a trusted RV shop and get some help checking things out and making sure it's all safe, but that's just me. If you want to use it or not probably depends on what safety features it has, and if you are comfortable with it - if it can be made to work at all.

So, are you restoring it to original as much as possible, or with an eye to modern conveniences so it will be easier/more comfortable to use? Glad to hear you are still plugging along on it. I was just thinking about it the other day, wondering how the 61 Caravel was doing

Right now I am just trying to get everything working without changing too much. I am going to put the bathroom back as close to original as I can. But as appliances die, I will replace them with more modern items. I guess more a refurbishment than a restoration.

Nothing wrong with that. I am doing the same thing, whatever needs to be done to keep it original as possible, but also as useful as possible. These old trailers love to be on the road!
