Serial # help

We have purchased a 1970 Safari last Feb and it is in pretty nice condition but mostly stripped except for the rear bathroom. The S/N is very different from what I gather. It is 023T0J104. From what I gather the first digit should be either an I,L or E. Ours is either 0 or O. Looks more like a zero to me. The rest of the S/N makes sense...23 ft, Twin rear bath, 1970 is 0 year, Jackson Center and unit 104 sequential. But what the heck is the 0 digit on the front mean? Thanks for any info. Tom

Might be an "O" for "Ohio"

Airstreams website has some of your answers.

http://www.airstream.com/wp-content/...s-pre-1980.pdf

023T0J104

O = Overlander Model
23 = 23 feet
T = Rear Bath, Twin Bed
0 = Year 1970
J = Jackson Center
104 = Sequential Serial Number (3 digits in the 60's, 4 digits in the 70's)

Damon: According to the information on that post Airstream stopped using O for Overlander in 1968. Our AS is a 1970 so even if there were some over run of serial #'s it seems like 2 years would be a very long over run. Besides it looks exactly like the zero's in the rest of the s/n not an O.
Bambi: The 6th digit being a J recognizes that it was made at the Jackson Center, Ohio facitlity so yes it was made in Ohio.
Still puzzling since the first digit is supposed to be an I,E, or L . Ours is a Land Yacht Safari so the 0 is not explained in the "normal" serial # configurations. This is very curious. I have tried to attach a photo of the S/N tag. Tom
