what happened?

We were heading north in Ohio on I-71 in a long traffic jam Sun afternoon. Passed several small fender benders, but the big one that caused the back-up was an Airstream that was then being pulled onto a wrecker. No car was at the scene and we only hope that the people were ok. The trailer was a crumpled mess.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the report.

Looks like the driver is OK, after swerving to avoid tire debris in the road:

From the timing and location, I guess this is the accident you reported, but the trailer and tow vehicle are hardly visible. That is a pretty hefty crane working IMO. Glad the driver is OK.

Thanks again,

Peter

PS -- Please reply to confirm that this is the accident you saw. No other reports seemed to fit the time and location. Thanks.

Hi

If so it likely was being towed without any sort of anti-sway hitch..... Mid day Sunday is a bit of an odd day / time for a transport to start out. I'd bet it was not something heading out from the factory. Mid morning ( = 9 to 10 AM) on weekdays seems to be when you see the giant parades exiting the RV factory lots.
