This is also close to Watch Hill beach and the old merry go round there. You can drive to Galilee to see the Point Judith Light house or even catch the ferry to Block Island. Aunt Carries, not far from the lighthouse, has world famous crab balls and chowder. If you have time go to Stonington and have lunch at Noah's restaurant. Several movies have been filmed there, the food and atmosphere are great. Even downtown Westerly is quite quaint with good restaurants, a small local players theater. If you like to paddle there is an outfitter in Westerly that can turn you loose on the river for several hours. If you want to be a real local have a naragassanett beer and a Del's lemonade
I stayed at the Stonington KOA. Reasonably close, nice sites, easy on and off the highway.
The aquarium was a huge disappointment - very expensive and not very impressive.
Stop by Mystic Pizza and say hello to Julia Roberts.
Go back down to New London, take the 2-hour lighthouse cruise, and visit the submarine museum in Groton.
Safe travels.
A second for the KOA in Stonington. I was there for a week this summer. Easy to get to and close to everything. The campground is kinda out in the country, great setting and very big but was surprisingly quiet.
