Mount Rainier Campground

Does anyone have a campground recommendation for Mount Rainier? We would be going in July, our Airstream is 30' and hookups would be preferred.
Thanks,
Greg

Given your requirements we would suggest you find a place outside the park. Campgrounds within the park will have zero hookups and there is a good chance they cannot accommodate the length of your rig. If you want to go for it, maybe check out Ohanapecosh (again, no hookups, but perhaps spots long enough). There may be NF campgrounds on 410 that can accommodate your rig, but they also have no hookups. Within the NF on Route 410, we like Silver Springs and The Dalles. Both very nice, though no hookups.

Whoops, please double check me on trailer lengths acceptable for Ohanapecosh at Mt. Rainier. I just read that due to tight turns in that campground, they may limit trailers there to 27 feet.

Ingraham Flats was nice when I was there this past June. Sitting at 11,100', it might be a bit tough on your tow vehicle to get there. Enjoy your visit. It's a special place.

This past July we parked our 23' Fying Cloud at Mounthaven, which is 1/2 mile outside the Nisqually enterance in Ashford, WA (Mounthaven.com). It is a nice facility and there are a couple of good restaurants in town.

We stayed at MountHaven last May. It was very nice, and at that time of year, it was not crowded at all. Of course, there were tons of trees. Each campsite had a nice fire pit. The owners were so very nice, and very helpful. It did have full hook-ups. I would stay there again without hesitation. Showers were very clean, laundry was very good. It is very close to the park. Grocery shopping is limited, so fill the fridge before you go.

We stayed at Cougar Rock campground last May. The campground loops are very tight but we were able to manage them just barely. The dump station there needed to be carefully planned, the trees showed signs of damage caused by RVs.

In late September we stayed at Ohanapekosh. There is a sign as you turn off the main road at the maintenance yard warning that trailers longer than 27feet to not proceed to the campground below. At that time of the year only loops before the Ohanapekosh bridge are open. These are older loops and are very tight including Loop B which has the dump station. During the summer the "newer" loops across the Ohanapekosh bridge are open. We noted in particular that loop F could handle longer RVs. Our notes indicate that sites F16 and F17 were quite long. The day use parking is also in Loop B along with the dump station. The day use parking takes up some of the road space which makes it even more challenging on the final turn before exiting the loop.

We were not able to fit into Mt Rainer Campground due to the length of our Airstream. 31' Oh, there were a couple of spots we could have fit in, but tenters occupied those spots.

We went a few miles down the road to La Wis Wis.... no hookups but we fit. There are a few campgrounds in Packwood....watch out for the moose..... Good wifi at hte packwood library...

Oh, another NF campground near the park that we liked very much: Lodgepole. Double check on campsite lengths, but it is a great place to camp as long as you don't mind going over Chinook Pass to get there.
