Florida bound

Can we get some advice please. We are headed to Florida via 65/231 then across 10 to St. Augustine. Can any recommend at place to stop over at or near Panama City? Also mid to south Florida on the gulf side. Yes we know this is probably kind of short notice, but this is our first trip pulling an RV down to Florida and we will just make the best of it with a "little help from our friends."
BTW we are going to be there about mid Feb. with stops already planned at St. Augustine, Withlacooche River, and ending the month at Brooksville for the TCT rally. We are very excited , thanks for any help you can offer.

Best to make reservations first, if you haven't yet. Late December through end of March is prime RV time in Florida. Most Campgrounds won't rent you site unless you commit to a minimum of 3 months. Best to start trying to make reservations around April 1st. Good luck.

St. Andrews State Park is on the Gulf Coast in Panama City. We have stayed in most of the state parks along the Gulf Coast. All are beautiful and well kept. I think all of them keep a few sites open or drive upsM, these cannot be reserved. Maximun stay is 14 days.

Mid Florida on the Gulf side - I recommend a County run RV park in Cedar Key that doesn't take advance reservations and won't let visitors stay a whole season. It is on the water with electric and water hook ups only. Check out Horseshoe Beach too.

Paradise Park in Punta Gorda is a condo setup some sites are available for rent. There is a visitor area with full hook ups, always sites available to rent by the night.
They have a golf coarse, pool, shuffleboard, recreation centre etc.

Hi goshawks00,

we'll see you at the TCT rally at Sertoma Youth Ranch. We were there last year and had a great time.

Regarding your stop near Panama City... Sounds like you're talking about an overnighter - in that night and leaving the next morning. If so, consider a Cracker Barrel parking lot. Cracker Barrel closes at 9 or 10 so the parking lot is relatively quiet after that. You can have breakfast (or not) the next morning before you leave. It's always best to call ahead to ask if you can stay overnight but they almost always say yes.

Similarly, Walmart and some other big box stores will let you stay in their parking lots overnight. Once again, ask the manager if that's okay. I've heard some people say they like one big box store or another because they have free WiFi that reaches the parking lot.

For trip like yours - requiring short duration overnight stops - we've found the Allstays app to be indispensable. At $10 it's the only app we've ever purchased and we wouldn't be without it. Allstays identifies a wide variety of RV parks/campgrounds as well as many big box stores and other stopover opportunities. The app is well suited to RV travel.

You could backtrack a few miles and stay at Falling Waters State Park. Or keep heading east and there are some commercial parks near Marianna. Camping World in Tallahassee had some free sites with electric and is about 1 mile north of I10. If you've got time to detour from I10, the suggestions of St Andrews and Cedar key are great. I also like Stephen Foster State Park near I10 and I75. Has a great Christmas light show right now.

All of Florida State Parks are beautiful !

If you have time, be sure to check out Gamble Rogers just south of St. Augustine on A1A.

Drive safe and have a Blast !

You could try St Joe's Peninsula State Park http://www.reserveamerica.com/campin...&parkId=281069 . I park and sleep at the I10 rest area at mm134 just east of 231 or the one at mm 194 at Tallahassee if I'm just traveling through. Have a great trip.

It has been our experience in Florida that it is extremely difficult to get into coastal campgrounds of any kind during peak season months, without advance reservations.

If you look inland, tho, you may find some vacant sites.

We'll also be crossing FL as we travel once more from CO to Key Largo in Jan. No reservations save for our final destination. We use Allstays Camp & RV enroute to find overnight camps. County and State Parks are often good midweek. Motels are always an option. Uncertainty is part of the adventure.

One of my favorite places we have ever stayed was at Santa Rosa in Navarre, Florida. It is in the general area. Check them out:
