Finding Great "RV Resorts" for Monthly Stays

Greetings all....
I have general question I hope all you seasoned travelers can help with.
We have had over 28 inches of rain here in Seattle since Dec....it is wet and cold and my wife and I want to find a way to get south for the sun. We considered moving south to Calif, Arizona, or New Mexico but we love it here in the spring through the fall. We then considered just renting a place for a couple of months each year on VRBO or AirB&B but it looks like all you get is a small room or condo for a lot of money.

So now we thought why not look for a great, upscale RV Resort with pools, a community, a tavern/café and allow pets, where we can tow our 25' AS and stay for a couple of months each year. Maybe even mix it up year to year in different places. But I am having trouble finding a source for these great resorts. I have read through several threads here but it is hard to find without going thread to thread to thread. I have used campgroundreviews.com and Campendium which are good for general resorts and stays. But nothing where recommendations are compiled into one place. So can we start that here? Where do you suggest staying for a couple of months in Calif, Arizona, Nevada or New Mexico that have good upscale amenities. I figure they cost around the same as the VRBO places but hey, I would have my own bed and a kitchen that is stocked to my liking. Not to forget great people around us. I know they gotta be out there. So, can you help?

Unfortunately, most of the places you described limit themselves to class A's.

fmr.... yes I have seen those Class A-only resorts in Palm Desert but I must say, that with the wealth of info from friends on AS Forums, they must have found other great RV resorts that will accept a new 2016 AS among its ranks? I did hear from one person that Rincon and Palm Creek RV and Golf Resort in Tucson was a good option.

Are there others?

We spend several months here each winter, exploring the U.S. widely to and from our destination. A combination of rv's, park models, pre-fab and stick built homes. It's been here just south of Tucson 30 years. Older but maintained very well, also has built an extraordinary community life during those years. It's a wonderful winter camp, exceptionally friendly and absolutely safe. Great base camp for exploring Arizona.

Another we have visited is Palm Creek Rv Resort in Casa Grande. Newer facilities, very impressive as you drive in. There are many smaller facilities in the southern Arizona area that do not offer as many amenities but are popular.

We have also stayed at State/National Parks in Arizona. Beautiful with stay length limitations. We like visiting these natural parks, but also enjoy the resort and community life for long term.

In 2003 I stayed for months, not knowing it would be months, at a little park called Caspar Beach Campground. It's in a cove right on the Pacific. The campground isn't all that special, but you just walk across the narrow street to the little beach, there's a store right there, and the whole thing is nestled in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of the world there is. They let me stay there quite a while in my 1986 345 moho.

We've also stayed quite happily at the KOA in Petaluma which is in Sonoma county. Beautifully run, many amenities, nice pool. Delightful.

I have never tried the app you mentioned, Maggie, but now I will!

Rincon East in Tucson is very nice. Rincon West is nice too but in a very sketchy area of town...

Another choice could be the St George, UT area. This RV Park in Hurricane, just outside St George, seems nice. I haven't stayed there, only in Zion NP.

Great location. On the Back Bay in the OC. Marina. Lovely restaurant in walking distance. Close to the beach Close to Fashion Island.

I am with you on this quest; we are looking for that ideal upscale resort in a warmer climate. We also like staying in NF and NP campgrounds, but are looking for that somewhat mythical place that we could park at for a couple of months in the winter, leaving the truck there and flying home a few times. We are willing to pay for someplace that has beautiful and spacious mature landscaping, facilities that are on the order of a 4-star hotel, in a nice and secure area. The one park in the west that comes to mind is Crown Villa RV Resort in Bend, OR, though we have never seen it in person. Maybe the pictures embellish the facility, and it is not a winter destination, but does illustrate the kind of place we have in mind.

We will follow this thread and see if any gems are discovered.

Anything closer to the Mississippi River - possibly even east of it? And no, it can't be Top of Georgia because I'm looking for a long term stay for the Pewter Palace - an Avion.

We stayed in the Rio Grande Valley at several nice RV resorts....eventually purchased a park model in Fun n Sun. Encore Resorts have several parks in and around Harlingen, Mercedes and McAllen. Fun n Sun has everything you are looking for. If you PM me I can give you more info. Rio Grande Valley TX is much less expensive than Florida and has virtually everything you could want to do!

Oasis RV Resort in SW Las Vegas. Very nice amenities.

We have friends who lived in the Seattle area for many years. They started spending a couple of months here http://www.chulavistarv.com/ each year for a couple of years and finally moved to San Diego.
We have stayed here several times for Rallies and always found it pleasant. Close to things in the San Diego area, but far enough away to quiet and nice. A short drive to the light rail if you want to visit other areas without driving and parking.

I'd recommend Venture Out RV resort in Mesa, AZ. Lots are privately owned and owners rent out their units or vacant lots. It has all the amenities you are looking for. They have a website and in the top right corner click on Bulletin Board and look for rentals. There are vacant lots for rent here by the month for about $800-$900 and that will get you the use of all facilities. We have really enjoyed it here, and Mesa is close to everything AZ has to offer. It's also the most dog friendly RV Resort we've seen with a huge dog park the size of a football field. **The RV lots that the park owns and rents are NOT available for dogs so go with a private owner's rental.

Friends of ours recommend Far Horizons Tucson Village in Tucson. We haven't been there before but plan to. They have a dog so I'm assuming it's okay to have dogs. You'll have to look up the amenities.

Okay.... I am getting a little more educated here. We have not been RV owners for very long (2 years) and just recently retired. So finding destinations outside of NPs and especially some sun in winter for a month or two or three is appealing. Most resorts I am landing on seem to cater to the over 55 crowd which is fine. But they have lots of activities, pools and sun. So here is what I have pieced together at this point:

They have 12 upscale RV resorts that cater to active lifestyles, pets, etc. The resorts are located in Arizona and California

Roberts Resorts - http://www.robertsresorts.com/
There are 5 resorts in Arizona that, again, cater to an active lifestyle. I couldn't find a pet policy but they say they require trailers to be >26' long ( I think I can fudge 1 foot).

Rincon Resort - http://www.rinconcountry.com/
This is a 2 park resort in Arizona. Looks popular

These all look great and on the mark for what we were interested in. I have not looked through reviews as yet but certainly plan to.

Any comments on these or others?

What I've found for our needs is:
It is not necessary to stay in a resort to get the aminities we want. A nice pool is a requirement. The other aminities being nearby outside the RV park is best for us. (and usually a lot less expensive)

We are in our 5th year of traveling south for several months during winter, October though March this season.

Here at Voyager resort we have been busy all week. Last night patio dinner at the restaurant and dancing in the ballroom, heading for the pickle ball courts this morning, then hobby shops, and pot luck gathering with friends tonight, church tomorrow morning. All without leaving the resort. Next week a short trip to New Mexico and then hiking in the area around Tucson. These resorts are a great winter destination for retirees.

I would second the suggestions for Chula Vista (San Diego) and Oasis (Las Vegas).
