Central Coast Dry Camping

About 60 miles south of Carmel and 40 miles north of Cambria is Kirk Creek Campground. It's my favorite. It is the only campground entirely on the ocean side of HWY1. There is no water there and only pit toilets. The campground is high on a cliff with spectacular views. It is a National Forest Service campground and so inexpensive. Nearby is Limekiln Creek State Park which is good for smaller rigs. There are some nice easy hikes to the waterfalls and old kilns. Plaskett Creek is also a National Forest Campground about 8 miles south of Kirk Creek. Nice campground in the trees across from a great beach. San Simeon State Park is near Hearst Castle and Cambria. It's only about a 5 minute drive into Cambria which is a quaint town with nice restaurants and shops.

THIS INFO IS AN ERROR ON MY PART. The comment was intended for THE VINES, which is located next to HW101. CruizinDux kindly pointed out my error. My apology for the confusion. Pat

Kirk Creek

Our absolute favorite place to bring the Silver Seed... it was our first camping spot after we bought our Airstream. Love it there!

I live in San Luis Obispo. My favorite quick get-a-ways at the ocean are:

Montana De Oro State Park. Dry camping. Great mountain biking, hiking and surfing right there.

Morro Bay State Park. Hookups and Dry available. Dump Station. Right next to the State Park Marina. Great kayaking and close to hiking and mountain biking.

Morro Strand State Beach. Hookups and Dry available. Dump Station. Right on the beach.

San Simeon State Park. Near Hearst Castle. Dry camping. Dump Station. Three campgrounds. Two near the beach. Washburn campground on top with great views is my favorite. Great hiking and boarding.

Pismo Beach State Park. Dry camping close to the beach via trails. Dump Station. Close to town. Lots of wine tasting in the area.

If you want to go wine tasting in the Paso Robles area, Wine Country on Hwy 46 is placed well. Full hookups with meeting rooms. Great place for a rally event. I'll be there with a Wally group this weekend. A bit noisy since it's very near the Highway.
