Campground near Manhattan?
The title of this thread probably sounds amusing. My wife and I are headed into NYC and we are hoping to pull the Airstream (30') instead of getting a hotel in Manhattan (room + parking approx $1100) for Thursday night October 10 and Friday night October 11. I have a conference on October 11 during the day and will commute into the city. The conference is at the New York Marriott East Side (525 Lexington Avenue). Any suggestions?

Check out Liberty State Park, there is a campground and water ferries into lower Manhattan. Never camped there so no input on the facilities

Liberty State Park looks great, but doesn't appear that they have overnight camping...
Thanks for the suggestion!

Liberty HARBOR RV Park. Rt 80 to rt 3 to Nj Turnpike. If youbwant you can also camp Mahln Dickerson County Park in NJ, about 40 west, but train and direct bus about 7 miles from campground, and camping is maybe $15.00 night. We live near and alwways dump there. Pretty small quiet., where Liberty Harbor will not be, but the views there worth a stay!

Aaah! Found Liberty Harbor RV Park and that may be a solution... Looks lke a parking lot, but may accomplish the goal and the view would be wonderful. Now I just need to justify the fuel cost instead of the room cost!

There's a National Park in Brooklyn.
Yep, Brooklyn.
On the "other" side of NYC.
$20/night; no electric, water or sewer.
A much larger and quieter parking lot. No nightclubs nearby.
Columbus Day weekend is a wonderful time of year around here.

Thanks Mistral Blue! A campground in Brooklyn! That might be perfect...
Bmark, if you try Liberty Harbor RV Park, please let me know! I'd love to get the inside scoop before going.

We have been to Liberty Harbor. It is at a marina and is basically a parking lot type campground. Mostly motor homes - our 34 footer at the time looked so puny. What the campground has going for it is location. They have a shuttle boat ( commuter boat) that takes you right to near where the twin towers were. Or you can take the trollley/ streetcar over. You have a wonderful view of the Statue of Liberty. We were there July 4 th and got to see fireworks over the Statue of Liberty and over Manhattan. It was fabulous. Well definitely go again because you can't beat the location!

Not really, Brooklyn's been around since the 1600's! ;-)
But seriously. We left Brooklyn to tour around the country in our Excella for a year. Nice to know we'll have a place to park when our route sends us back around to the northeast!
