Washing Curtains

I am attempting to wash my interior curtains. These are not original. Maybe from the 90s or so. I need the platic clips for the bottom, they look kind of like a hamburger if you will. Ware do I get them from? also I am doing 1 set at a time, any tips would be appreciated? I tried this with my old 73 airstream, original drapes and I trashed them. I am hopeing for good luck on these. They have alot of dust from camping in remote areas,( boondocking ) 4 wheeler and hunting.

Thumbs up

I looked into cleaning my curtains in my 94 back in the winter. Dry cleaner told me to wash them on gentle cycle with mild detergent. After washing immediately remove and fold along the pleats trying to maintain the original pleat lines. Then hang them over your shower rod until dry. This method worked great on my curtains.

I am noticeing I have a balloon type material that doesnt like to spin dry?? It sticks together then making small tears in the backing. If I remove them early, still dripping They dont stick?? Good thing I am only doing 1 set at a time. Boy these things were dirtier then I originally thought.

Yes, we had or 73's drycleaned and it melted the rubber inner liner. Only where the sun came through... So I am sure the uv rays wrecked them long ago. Needless to say, we now need new ones made. Does anyone know if we can buy them premaid "original"???

Thanks for the plug Ricky. I cant figrue out which carriers look like a hamburger, maybe G-tabs? Most people hand wash the curtains in woolite because the tabs get hung in the washer and cause shredding. Putting them in the dryer will cause the backing to break down, so if you have a place to hang them it would be better.

They are simply called Large sew in sliders. Boy I made a mess out of that hu? I got it from your web link silver. I now have more questions. I was thinking about redewing my curtains and noticed that maybe it isnt necessary to have them connected at top and bottom. Maybe the Bottoms can just hang loose. Is that true??

Hey andy. I know but I was trying for a more personal touch . I read one of your interior posts before and I thought that also But figured I would put it out there again. I have seen wood blinds and other different things that looked nice also. I thought maybe go with a street rod theme??

The 60's models, at least most of them I have made, dont have rails on the bottom and just hang. They did originally have an elastic strip on the bottom that held them in place called a snugger cord. If you look on my website you can see mine. They are the red checked ones. It is whatever you prefer. I like the 60's curtains better because they dont cover the wall as the 70's and up do. Good luck and if I can be of any help just send me a message.

new curtains

mustang
I am in the process of making new drapes for my unit. They really aren't that hard to do if you can sew at all, but they are a bit time consuming since there are so many of them.

The tabs can be bought several places; a good source is vintage trailer supplies Vintage Trailer Supply - Vintage travel trailer parts and supplies! or outofdoorsmart Tabs, Snaps, & Catches : ODMRV , Out-of-Doors Mart

I am sure that Andy carries them too.

Hello wanna roam Ya I thought about that also. There is a couple goes by the name B&J They have mini blinds from the factory Wow they look clean. These curtains. (The way Airstream hangs um) are a real pain. I just dont want them hanging tight at the top and a foot away from the wall at the bottom. I also have asthma and the curtains hold dust and dirt. I am going to call Airstream and see if there is a trick or specific brand or The way they hang them. I am sure I could get a Lowes brand and probably be fine also. Maybe incorporate curtains along with mini's.

They take curtain rails top and bottom to hold them to the wall. And a FYI: if you decide to do curtains check ALL the curtain rails to see what type they are. I just went to hang a curtain and found out that half of mine are "G" tab and half are "T" tabs!

Mine are T tabs. except for the front wrap around. My side curtains in the front I had problems with the backing also. I am hanging the bedroom ones while they are still damp and backing is not sticking. I am going to have to do something about front side ones though.

carriers

I thought you had this type mustang. The T's are very small. The ones in the picture dont come with elastic, you have to add your own.
