Umbilical cord: Straight or coil?

I've got an older coach with the removable umbilical cord. I just replaced the vehicle end connector, and I'm about to replace the coach end connector. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just go ahead and replace the umbilical cable as well.

Has anybody tried the coiled type? Opinions?

Thanks!

Don

I like the idea of the coiled cord. I have to tie mine up to keep from dragging the ground.

I don't no if my 76 AS cord is removable, if so would use coiled. I loop mine around rod for propane tank hold down to keep from dragging.

First you forget names. Then you forget faces. Then you forget to pull your zipper up.

Finally, you forget to pull your zipper down.

Robert Cross I tried to respond to your PM. Seems blocked. Thanks for the idea. I think I have a couple of those somewhere.

Hey Don. On our (old, used) '73, I had to purchase an umbilical because it didn't come with one. I picked one up at NAPA for about $30. The trailer end had to be wired in according to the wiring scheme of the Airstream. It is the coiled type. I was initially concerned that it would pull loose because of the coiled, "spring-like" feel when connected. Never been a problem in several thousand miles of towing.

There are several different types available. I think it'll work for you just fine.

Jim

I made the pictured hanger out of a large electrical conduit clamp and an eye bolt. Clamps to tongue jack post. Trimmed an opening in the eye bolt to allow the cable to pass through. Purchased connector cover online.
