title woes

I found a 75 sovereign thats been parked for 12+ years, took and chance, knocked on a door, and the current owner is ready to sell me his grandfathers airstream for restoration. (Its in really good shape no leaks and well protected) Only prblem is i can't put it on the road with out a title. S.C. DMW can't find any record of it every being titled, (it does have an SC plate but it doesn't run back to the airstream). It was suggested that I find a salvaged yard and buy a title there. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions? The seller willing to let this beauty sit and wither, its just not his cup of tea.

Have a local police or state officer come and do an ID inspection. This is basiclly to authenticate the VIN # . With this and a bill of sale from the owner?, go to the DMV, department of motor vehicles, and file for an abandon vehicle title. It may require a surity bond. Each state has it's own procedure but without a title the trailer is WORTHLESS. I would not spend a penny on it other than as small a down payment as possable until a title is available. The last thing you want to do is find out AFTER restoration that someone has the paperwork that makes it legally theirs.---pieman
