Bunk Beds
Last question of the night, in the Argosy I'm looking at, it has two single beds between the galley and the bathroom in the back. I was wondering if you could make bunk beds above them, and if so, how hard is it? There appears to be two hanging cabinets nearest the galley that over hangs the bottom beds. Maybe two smaller beds up top that kiddos could sleep in. What do you think - possible?

I've done it. Other's have done it. Search my old posts and also Pizza Chop's. You have the option of a permanently installed bunk or a bunk that is removable. Right now I have a couple of vintage bunks. They are a little hard to find and can be pricey. I spent about $200 on the removeable bunk I made. I no longer need it. PM me if you are interested in it.

I took one of the twin beds out and built in my bunks. There are lots of options.

Airstream had special brackets for bunk beds.
We have a few of them left.

Wow. That was pretty good. I don't think I'm into the cable and canvas upper bunk thing. We visited a train museum today and got to go through a caboose. There were these stow away bunks with heavy metal arms - probably spring loaded that folded the bed down. Looked cool. I was wondering if there is anything similar - like the overnight passenger trains in Europe that you pull down to sleep in - you remember like To Russia with Love!
I think I'm into the fixed bunk. Do you think you can get away with putting a strong lip along the three sides of the closet, side trailer wall, and bathroom wall, and put a wood box frame on top of that - 1/2 marine ply with a skeleton structure underneath it? Or like Mr. Pizza man do you have to take out the old beds and put in free standing bunk beds? And then how do you bolt it to the trailer side wall? Right into skin or structure?
Hey, could you go to Ikea or Craig's list, find a second hand bunk bed and install it - or do you need something sturdier?

Don
Have a 73 Argosy 24 with the wall brackets and the ceiling cable brackets but only i set of cables (good for a patern) canvass bed and support bars were not there when I got unit. PM me if interested, I'm selling my 24 and could remove if you decide to go original.

Hey Andy,
Do the original brackets need to be positioned over a rib or stringer? Especially the ones that mount on the ceiling that the cables attach to?

If my kids were younger I thought that this would have been a pretty cool idea: RV Surplus a thought

OK, RV Surplus' bunk bed solution is just to sweet. I'm off to measure as well. Great. Thanks.
