Belle Isle on the Rappahannock

To All,

We would like to extend an invitation to join the WDCU at one of it's many rallies. If you have ever been to a WDCU rally, you know we always have a good time and treat newcomers as though they were lifetime friends. The WDCU is also know for it's number of Vintage Trailers and the many tow rigs that pull them. If you are looking for that laid back, lets have a goodtime and have fun camping, you need to attend. We'd love to have you join us and take in some of the fun. We in the WDCU believe in "Just Camping. You can go to the WDCU website for links and details, if you have questions after that, you can contact me, I'll be happy you answer any of your questions.

Belle Isle State Park is a new location for the WDCU to hold a rally. Harley and John, our rally hosts, have already scouted the park and are confident we will find the location extremely enjoyable. This location in the rural Northern Neck of Virginia features diverse tidal and non-tidal wetlands, lowland marshes, tidal coves and upland forests.

So if you live in the area or are traveling through the area the weekend of May 19th to the 22nd consider signing up and joining us.

If anyone has a personal experience about Belle Isle or photos they would like to share, please add them to this thread. Its' always nice to get a different perspective on a camping location.

Reservations have been made for 25 of the 28 campsites for the rally. Just let the hosts know that you will be attending the rally, which day you will be arriving, your trailer length, the number of people, the number of pets. Forward your fee to the rally hosts. The camping fee and rally fee is all inclusive ($114.00 for the three nights, including tax). So you don’t have to bother with going online to make your reservation through the park service. Isn’t it great to belong to a unit that offers this kind of service. If you wish to attend only one or two nights or simply come by for the rally dinner, please contact Harley and make arrangements. We would like to turn over any unused reservations to the park service in order to obtain a refund on the registration fee.
If you're planning on attending or just maybe thinking about it, check out the rally zone calendar.

Please Note: The charge for pets is $15 per pet for the three days and can be paid at the campground. Please be sure to have either a rabies certificate or a valid tag

Tom:

I've heard good things about your group, and you're the closest to me. I don't know if my AS will be ready by then (maybe I'll have the axles and tires back on, maybe not) If not, is there a way to just come up for the day and meet everyone? I think I'm only a couple hours away. Maybe I could just carry a pic of my AS in my wallet as proof so I can get in? What day would be best if that's an option?

Robwok,

We would definately like for you to attend if you can. We have had folks show up with just the shell and a sleeping bag inside. If you find you can't show up with your trailer that's ok too. I know the feeling, I had to cancel a few rallies because of the condition of one or the other of my trailers. There's been more than one rally I've showed up without a trailer and others do the same. If you would like to come down for just the day and hangout and relax with the group that would be fantastic also. (I've even decided on the spur of the moment to hop in the car and go to a rally for the day). Bring the family. We will be having a prepared dinner Saturday evening, and a pot-luck Friday nite. Stay for a meal if you like. There's always more food than we can handle at all of our rallies. You are more than welcome, no strings attached.

This is one of the closest parks to us, and we have enjoyed it in the past. Coming would be a slam dunk for us, except that the date is so close to Alumapalooza. But we'll see.

Hey Pat,

It might be a good warm-up rally for Alumapalooza.

FYI, the hosts are also attending Alumapalooza.

We just got some great news from the park.

There will be musical entertainment on Saturday Night!
The park informed us a band will be performing that evening.

Other opportunities for entertainment at Belle Isle are horseback riding, kayaks, & boat rentals (motorized)

If you haven't signed up yet be sure to get your information sent in soon.

Here is the latest update on the band which will be performing on Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. John and Harley have one of the CD's and they tell me the music is very good and we will enjoy their show.

Bill and Macon Gurley are a father and daughter duo from the Tidewater and Northern Neck areas of Virginia. They bring special family harmonies to a mix of blues, bluegrass, folk and old-time music that has won them many friends at festivals and concerts around the Old Dominion. They are a perennial favorite at Music by the River. The duo is joined by bassist Gray Grainger, who has played with Bill since their school days. Even if you don't plan to attend the rally bring a picnic dinner and a blanket or chairs. Local businesses and the Friends of Belle Isle make this concert possible.
Bill Gurley and his daughter Mason are partners with Bill's wife and run The Tavern in Heathsville, not too much farther down the road from the campground.

Come join us is you can.

By the way I forgot to mention the entertainment is free of charge if you would like to just attend to listen to the band. They will be performing in the picnic area of the park.

John and Harley are great hosts and I am sorry that I will miss this rally. The schedule listed in the WDCU newsletter on www.wdcu.wbcci.net sounded great!
Great friends, great food, free entertainment, what else can someone ask for?

Unfortunately we'll probably have to miss this rally. I promise it's a very good reason though.

Hello, Pat, and we certainly hope you'll be able to come. Several who are attending will also be going to Alumapalooza. I received a check for the rally from a couple that live in Reedville, VA yesterday. At this point we have a total of 10, and I'm certain that after talk at the CKR this coming weekend we'll get more. Come on out! We know you'll have a good time.

Two weeks from tomorrow is the start for this rally.
If your thinking of attending, now's the time to register.
We hope you can join us.

Harley mentioned there were about fourteen signed up last week?? We had to return the hold on the sites to the Va parks by the middle of the week in order to get the refund on the unused spots. This means anyone who wishes to attend after this week will be responsible for paying for their site through the Virginia Parks Service. But we will be gladly welcome anyone who wants to make their reservation on their own.
I'm looking forward to this new location. It sounds like a fun with the entertainment on Saturday.

FYI,

It's getting down to the wire for the deadline to return any unused camping sites for this rally. We have fourteen signed up and there are still six good sites left. If you are interested in attending please contact Harley in the next couple of days (the information is on the WDCU website) and you can arrange to pay your rally/camping fee when you arrive at the campground for the rally. That way he will be sure to hold a spot for you.

Here's something that might entice you to join us.

If you're wondering what kind of sunsets we can expect on the Northern Neck of Virginia, take a look.
